Just wondering, if I do indeed pass the bar here in California, am I able to then represent people who get in trouble crossing the border at TJ? Let me guess, this was something I should have already known for the bar

Yes, smuggling can be charged in the federal court. But most prosecutions for modest quantities of juice are brought in the San Ysidro Municipal Court. You can represent folks there with a Cali state bar admission.
