All the different colors confuse me...

Yep...my mother AND my girlfriend are both out of town for the week. Actually...the two of them are together at a conference (mostly out drinking...lol).

I ONLY know how to wash my workout clothes but tonight I got a wild hair and decided to clean out my closets. I have tons of clothes that don't fit anymore and lots that fit but just need to be washed. So...here I am back in the laundry room sorting out the reds, the whites, and the darks. The ONLY thing I remember is to wash everything on COLD/COLD and not to dry it on too hot of a temperature.

I just pray that I don't come out with some Barbie sized Polo shirts later this evening...

When in doubt - hang it out to dry :) That way nothing important gets ruined.

Oh and don't forget to check those tags for washing instructions. Those can be very handy!

Uhhhh....you serious? They have instructions on them? It really matters? I thought that I could just wash them on cold/cold and then tumble dry low everything...

No I think they only shrink in hot water and as long as I keep colors and whites separate everything is fine. Im not to sure how to use bleach properly because my whites come out dingy even when theyre clean.

No need to be touchy :) I know heaps of people who just dont have a clue and dont check... they just do everything on cold-cold and leave it up to the gods to decide how things come out.... Silk, rayon, lycra, cotton, rayon.. its all the same to them.

But in future I will keep my ever-so helpful advice to myself. Good day sir!

Hmph!

I wasn't being sarcastic in my post...I was being serious. I have NEVER done laundry before. I ONLY do my gym clothes and most of them look pretty rough as it is....

Seriously...I was not being sarcastic.

B;

all colors in one pile

all whites in another pile

wash seperately. washing in cold water will prevent shrinkage but arguably will not get the material as clean. Go figure.

Use Oxy Clean alongside detergent. :)

Sweeeet Jesus...Nothing like a helpless man! :-)

Since PolishHammer is about as close as it gets to having a proper wife....

PH-Don't you seperate towels and wash cloths from your whites? I always bleach those articles in a load on it's own!

Lights colors should be in a seperate load too!

No wonder some people look like they are wearing gray colored clothes all the time.

:-)

Me and my wife (whoever gets to laundry first) usually just sort out darks, lights, whites, and towels (like Vix :) ).

As for drying, low should keep you from ruining anything.

When I am trying to do multiple sets (er....loads...sorry) I set my dryer like my oven......350 for 40 mins. ;)

It just gets done quicker.

I try to buy stuff big anyway since I'm growing and my "baking method" for drying clothes are probably shrinking them.

I fill the washer and put gain on it and run it. I have no idea what the settings are usually at, or what they do. I think gain is color safe, so it's alright to put everything together.

Why would someone wash clothes? To sell them? wtf

Well, I had 3 piles.
1) Anything dark
2) Red
3) White

So far...so good. I also used Oxy Clean.

I don't have any of those dryer sheets...and everything is coming out wrinkled

Put everything on hangers straight out of the dryer,
run hands over the surface from top to bottom, smooth out wrinkles
If really wrinkled use both hands, one on each side of the fabric. pull down gently on the bottom.
Let gravity do the rest overnight.

Thanks, about to take some more out of the dryer in a minute...I just folded the ones from last night...lol.

If they are already dried and wrinkled---You can also wet a towel and throw the clothes back into the dryer w/ the wet towel!

BE SURE TO GET 'EM OUT AFTER THE BUZZER GOES OFF THIS TIME!

Dear God...I hate the thought of him trying to iron his clothes! :-)

You're fucking spoiled rotten.

Did you ever go to college?

I have a great system: I bought three clothes baskets.

When I take off my clothes, I put the stuff that the lable says should be washed in cold water in one, warm water in a second, and all my white socks and t-shirts in another.

When I run out of shorts, I wash the cold basket. When I run out of colored socks or underwear, I wash the warm basket. When I want to wash my bedclothes (which I always do on hot) or run out of white socks, I wash the hot basket.

For drying, I always use the wrinkle reducer setting. It dries it at the regular temperature (heated) for the first half of the cycle then just dry air for the second half. This is the key to avoiding wear and tear and wrinkling on your clothes, to allow them to FINISH drying at room temperature. Yeah I looked this up on the internet.

As far as detergent I just buy what's cheap. Color safe bleach, no bleach, whatever. No big name brands usually. Never had a problem.

I try to do it on weekends because power is cheaper on weekends.

IF and when I marry someone I will probably do the laundry because I'm good at it and pretty meticulous.

I DO NOT iron, and I hate folding clothes so hopefully my future woman won't mind helping with that.

Took them out of the dryer as soon as the buzzer went off last time...not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I held my mouth the wrong way...

I can iron actually...lol

Don't feel bad B Fold, I'm 24 and have never done laundry by myself either. I've always been told "go put this, this, and this in the washer and turn it to cold/warm/hot" Then when it's done I just throw it in the dryer and get it out right when the buzzer sounds so they don't wrinkle.

Same here...had I ruined ANY of my mother's clothes I'd be skinned alive...lol.

I am learning though...
