ALA question

Hey guys i know this is a supplement but i need knowledgeable advice. I know a lot of people use it for liver protection, creatine transport and all that good stuff. My question is this, ALA can make you hypoglycemic by lowering blood sugar and transporting nutrients to muscle cells. Now i hear it not only transports nutrients to muscle cells but also to fat cells as well. Will this make you fatter? Or doesn't it defeat purpose if you're cutting to use this then??????
thanks

I know MD6 and some others use it. But is it possible it's doing the opposite??

bro i'm not doubting you... that's what i initially thought. But other people are saying it shuttles not only into muscle but also into fat stores... want more info to know for sure.

ALA increases the concentration of glucose transporters on cell's surfaces...ALL cells that utilize glucose transporters. There is no chemical, as of yet, that can cause this to happen in only muscle cells and not fat cells.

The reason for weight loss is most likely due to a repartitioning effect, that may be due to reduced insulin secretion, which leads to less fat storage.

i realize ALA wont allow that big insulin spike and crash people have at times and this aids in fat loss.

However, pushing nutrients into fat cells, isn't that counterproductive and may make fat burning more difficult?

thanks

"However, pushing nutrients into fat cells, isn't that counterproductive and may make fat burning more difficult?"

When skeletal muscle becomes more sensitive to insulin's effects, it utilizes the majority of the glucose in the body, for energy production, glycogen formation, building materials, etc. Skeletal muscle, being the largest tissue mass in the body, then acts as a sink for most of the carbohydrates ingested, drawing away energy from fat cells. As long as the individual does not eat carbohydrates and fat in excess of what is required, then fat cells are more or less deprived of storage energy.

With greater insulin sensitivity comes lower insulin secretion. Lower insulin levels allows for greater mobilization of fatty acids.

The research on insulin's involvement in obesity is overwhelming. Studies show that greater insulin sensitivity and lower insulin levels are correlated with lower body fat mass. Alterations in the insulin system increase the propensity for obesity.

I posted a similar question a long time ago. As I recall, Fonz had some good info. I believe the conclusion was that taking ALA would not cause fat gains.

under heavy dosages that are toxic to the liver a good/high dose of milk thistle and ala is always recommended so alls i say is that i would much rather protect my liver than worry about a little transport to the fat cells, burn it off later when yer liver isnt at such risk ....

COCKDEZL, I just sent you a PM...hopefully you get this before it sinks too far down the board. Thanks bro!
