advice for comp newbie?

This is to those of you who have already competed.

Just wondering what kind of mental state I should be in. I have been told dieting for a comp can be pretty rough.

What would be the 2 best bits of advice that you would give to someone who is just about to start dieting for a competition?
 
1- if your gonna diet for a show dont quit halfway!

2-make sure you get adequate rest since when your dieting you tend to get very edgy

rest is very necessary. i could sleep 10-14 hrs a day(nap) while preparing for my first comp and be tired the entire time i was awake.

stay busy all the time, to keep your mind off of food. there are all kinds of justifications for just one more cheat day... and you'll start to believe them.

rest, rest ,rest get that rest man, you will probably feel sorta sluggish anyways but i can't imagine if you got no sleep. secondly i would diet slowly, the slower you diet i think the more muscle you can keep, and i would also research what sort of gear to use on a diet for a competiton. For me personally once i say i am dieting i don't have much difficulty sticking to it, its once im not doing a show that I have trouble eating clean. Just look at the mirror everyday as it dosn't lie
 
I guess thinking that the other guys are not cheating will focus me even more.
