Helped me...if you can afford it...but my IGF 1 levels were low....once you start throwing hormones in, you really should be seeing a doctor to monitor all this...otherwise could make it worse long term....find a good integrative or functional med doc near you familiar with HRT and AD

Another book, From Fatigued to Fantasic, Dr Jacob Teitelbaum

Id look at that book and Adrenal Fatigue by Dr Wilson, then shop around for appropriate doc

Hey there, after some more research I think that I may have two separate problems that look like one problem....

Damage to main Test producers (Testes) results in low T, combined with a propensity towards Estro build up results in Low T and even Lower Free T: Problem 1

Genetic predisposition and stressful lifestyle resulted in adrenal fatigue that went undiagnosed like the low T above: Problem 2

Now, I have sorted the low T and high E with appropriate medications, but no improvement to quality of life or body composition has been noted...

Therefore next step is to sort out low cortisol levels firstly and then to support adrenals to allow them to repair and regenerate.

Following on from research my best bet would be the following

1) Increase cortisol levels by using 20mg Hydrocortisone a day in order to allow the body to tolerate the normal levels of thyroid function (this should help with coping of stressors of everyday life and to increase energy levels, may have an effect on energy partitioning and thus aid with body recomposition) (Have been using liquorice extract @ 500mg 2x day in order to prevent leaching of endogenous cortisol, but it does not work as I simply do not have enough endogenous cortisol) (20mg is apparantly a sub-physiological replacement dose)
2) Make use of adrenal cytotrophin to support adrenals and let them repair whilst they are resting due to exogenous cortisol application (as per musclemom, thanks dudette)
3)Restart use of progesterone cream, DHEA and Pregnenolone to allow adrenals further rest time by not having to produce this hormone
4)Supplement with the list of items given by power36 above (due to cost, will concentrate on: Omega3's, Vit C, E and B group, Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc and Ashwagandha) (thanks dude)
5)Limiting use of processed foods (especially carbs) to one/two meals a week (on the same day)
6)Taking up to 5 meals a day each with protein, so intermittent fasting for body recomp is out for the moment (apparently this is VERY important for the adrenals?)

I have pretty much been doing the above with the exception of the exogenous cortisol and the adrenal cytotrophins, perhaps these two items are the missing keys to my feeling better?

As far as I can see this pretty much covers all the bases?? Any comebacks?

Opinions and advice, as always are very welcome.

Blessings

H

BTW, I am wondering if the fact that my adrenals cannot cope with normal thyroid function is not the cause of my extreme insulin readings...Possible?

You have Low cortisol?

You have Low cortisol?

Yes, I do, veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery low.

Shit, shit, shit, shit.

I just realised that introducing exogenous cortisol will supress endogenous cortisol release via the negative feedback loop. Meaning that doing so will in all likelihood damage the adrenals, not so? (much like exo test does to the testes?)

What now?

BTW, prior lab results for cortisol

Lab 1: Cortisol: 173nmol/l
Lab 2: S-Cortisol 136 (range (am) 101 - 535 (pm) 79 - 477)

You need labs for all of this....I had low T, low cortisol, and sky high DHEA on my labs....so no need for me personally for DHEA and pregnenolone.....I did 20mg cortef for a while and now do 10mg in the morning thats all, and going to back off that over time...realize all of this could take TIME....there is no rushing recoverying from it all.....I was on HRT forever it felt like before I saw changes, slow and steady over 1.5 years....but I get labs and have a doc looking at all of this so Im not guessing...and cortisol function you want blood, but also saliva at different times of the day, and maybe urine too there are a few ways they test for that stuff.....you dont want to take any hormones you dont need, messes stuff up more....and I did have to play with my doc of course with thyroid and cortisol...lots of weird stuff to figure out which can all be individualized and this stuff isnt hard science yet, ffew doctors have a grip on it and dealing with it isnt mainstream...hell I was taking 8 grains of Amor thyroid a day and couldnt feel a thing...Im down to 1g now, but I mean its all alot of playing around, but you should be playing around with a doc doing it who is taking labs and monitoring your symptoms as you adjust things

Cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the day and while its a necessary hormone Im not so sure I would self medicate based on the numbers from the above tests. My understanding is to get a true idea of your bodies ability to produce cortisol there are specific things that need to be done prior to the test etc.

I def would NOT self medicate cortisol....even if low cortisol is an issue, taking it is the last resort after you try all the other methods to "fix" your adrenal fatigue....
