ACL Rehab

TA63

New member
I had ACL reconstruction last friday. The pain was pretty bad for 24 hours, but with some agressive rehab, I am walking unassisted today. It is quite obvious when looking at my left quad that I have lost a ton of muscle. Would it be a poor idea to take a moderate dose of anavar, say 20mg/day, to assist in strengthening the quad and other stabilizer muscles in the knee?

I'm curious as to what all you are doing for rehab.

I would be careful with everything that you are doing at first.

My rehab currently consists primarily of stretching. Range of motion is coming along much faster than my therapist expected. Im also doing some light quad and hamstring strengthening exercises. Gotta kinda baby the hamstrings, cause thats where the doc got the graft. Im definately not gonna work the legs hard until they are ready. What im primarily concerned about is the affect that AAS could have on the growth of blood vessels into the graft and also the reconnection of the graft to the bone itself.

I would take it very easy. Tendons and ligaments grow and heal at about one third the rate muscles do. You may end up strengthening the muscle at to high of a rate which MAY lead to another injury. Remember aas will increase your strngth pretty rapidly. Maybe to fast. I would look at some gh and if you insist on aas some deca. IMO. But im not to familiar with ass in rehab situations though.

hey bro
had my reconstruct 2-03-04 and i would hold off on taking anything until you get your don-joy brace and what not, basically untill you get FULL RANGE of motion....everyone will be different as we all heal differently but until you can lie on your stomach and pull your foot back nearly touching your ass UNASSISTED i wouldnt touch anything....mine is coming along great now, just waiting on my brace and i can start some jogging and squatting....i will pass along this one peace of advice in all caps YOUR KNEE IS GOING TO FEEL GREAT AFTER A LIL MORE THEN A MONTH BUT THATS THE TIME IT IS ACTUALLY WEAKEST BECAUSE YOUR GRAFT WILL BE ALOT WEAKER THEN WHEN IT WAS INITIALLY PUT IN SO DONT OVER DO IT......well bro i hope that helps and if you need any other info just PM me

peace

The only thing that can help is time, and yes light rehab, I had the same surgery in December and my quads on my left leg still have not recovered.

Worked with the Varsity QB at the university here before his ACL surgery. WE trained by doing leg presses and box squats fairly intensly for the month or two before the surgery. Strong muscles before the surgery mean faster recovery after the surgery. He is one heck of a man though. We were down to Jacksonville State at 1/2 time and he put his pads on and announced to everyone that HE was the quarterback of our team and that HE WOULD be playing in the 2nd half (with a torn acl). In overtime, after he made the winning touchdown pass, we had to carry him off the field.

2 weeks after his ACL surgery...he was doing high rep body weight squats with his back against a wall. Down 'near' parallel.

Thanks to all for the replies. I have also heard that at 4-6 weeks, the graft is very weak. Im gonna have to be damn careful, cause I have a hard time just sitting around. One week in, and my rehab is coming along extremely well, and range of motion is excellent. My hamstrings are quite sore, though.
I think im gonna try to do some light upper body stuff next week. Please continue to share your experiences.
