Achiles tendon soreness

Sub-Zero

hi, im wondering if its bad if someones tendon is sore...

i did calves on thursday, and did about 15 minutes of fast running/sprinting today and my achiles tendons right above the heel feel like they have been wacked with a lacrosse stick or something. they feel really tight and almost swollen when i move my feet, but they look normal (no swelling, bruisng all that)

i guess im partially asking if its normalish to have tendon soreness, and if not will i live and how can i fix it

this has happened to me before. it's just that you haven't done the sprinting in a while and your tendons are not trained to take your weight, especially since you've probably gained a bit a weight since you've last run regularly. plyo work will likely fix this, at the moment, just do the good old RICE technique.

my personal way to deal with soft tissue injuries (after a period of time) is to take a hot shower or even better, an epsom salt bath, massage and stretch, ice massage, then after a while, alternate with a hot pack. it's worked very well for me, especially when battling tendonitis during the height of the vball playoffs.

i gotta spread karma, thanks.

so its not like muscle soreness? iso should i be worried

is the pain around the muscle/tendon junction? ie where the muscle inserts into the tendon?

it is definately not muscle soreness.

i'd definately keep away from ballistic movements (running jumping) for a while until this heals over, however i don't see a problem with squatting and such (unless you are doing things like clean pulls, but i doubt you are).

yeah im not doing cleans anymore. im gunna start up again this summer.

it was like right on the tendon but its feeling alot better now, it went away like a muscle soreness would...

That sucks.

I pulled my achilles tendon 2 years ago. I was trying out for my school soccer team ( and i made it), but i tried a bit too hard. I pulled it, and could barely even walk for 2 months. Your best bet is to keep it rested. You usually pull it by putting too much unfamiliar pressure. Next time (hopefully in several weeks) gradually increase in time/weight.

Hope you get better as soon as possible. I know how you feel. I know I felt totally immobilized.
