What is wrong with people?

I have a list of items on every one of my invoices and on my agreements that gives a certain criteria that needs to be followed when paying for an invoice. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

#2 – All balances must be paid in full prior to delivery or installation.

Pretty clear – no?
No pay – no play.

I have this client that acts dumb every time I tell him I can’t deliver or install anything until the invoice is paid in full (excluding delivery cost as that’s billed separately). We go over every single invoice every single time the balance is due. I paid it already he says, yes you paid the deposit I remind him.

I have this new stair railing to be installed and the contractor is like – when you pay me I’ll make time to install it. (Which is normal for him – so I’m like yah – I know, just give me a day when you think you can do it and I’ll get you the money.)

Back to the client – I remind the client about balances and you know what he just said, “well I wished I had known that because this is really holding me up.”

For 5 months we been having this song and dance and I’m so ready to beat his whinny ass senseless.

Nah. He always pays but it's a long painful process.

You're from NYC, correct?

Take a ride down to Canarsie or Ozone Park, ask for Moose and Rocko...Tell 'em to help the judge find his checkbook.

Ahh the good old Brooklyn days.

Let me guess.........the guy is loaded?

He's not loaded but he's making some money.

He cries endlessly about the cost of things, yet, he also celebrated his ex-wife remarrying by buying a modest house our here that he hired me to freshen up.

He was living in CT and just moved into a rental in the city where he works.

All I have to say is THANK GOD for his girlfriend.

She just stops his procrastinating right in its tracks and she does it so well.

some people are just like that.

sounds like you need some oral, that always makes any situation better.

Yes- I can relate to this...
telling some people that they owe fines on thieir late books
usually invokes a traumatically shocked response...
It's almost like "this is like pulling teeth- might as well have become a dentist"...

I think people pick and choose who they can not pay for that month.

Mortgage - check
Car - check
Insurance - check

Cell phone - late
Electric - late
Landline - late

Cable - what bill?

Know what I mean.

I also (since I'm babbling) hate when people try and negotiate my rates. I always ask them if they try and knock down their doctor's rates or their lawyer's rates. It is what it is and if it's too high consider someone else. (Once you tell them no they never leave - OH GOD.)

Don't mind me - I'm invoicing today - makes me rant often)

I don't give terms, they pay before service/product is extended. No ifs or ands about it.

You have to keep it simple in my opinion. Peace of mind is #1.

I can only do that with items in stock - some furniture orders can take up to nine months and people get crazy when they have to wait that long after handing over a large piece of change.

Velvett... People DO NOT READ/LISTEN! This becomes clearer to me each day. I repeat/write the same things over and over to our partners. We send out step-by-step instructions on how to upload video into our system. We have partners call and say I don't know how to do it. So I resend instructions and say to read them before calling with questions. They call (and haven't read anything). Then we have to literally read the step-by-step instructions (complete with screenshots of each interface) to the partner. Come on people, get a clue.

This makes me so angry on a daily basis and it just seems to get worse.

You sumed it all up perfectly.

That is because their own stupidity and lack of following directions doesn't cost them anything. If they were to have to pay $1000 for the call, THEN you'd see much different results.

Ohhh, yeah. Welcome to the Capital City of the WORLD... You will now be surrounded by a bunch of people who apparently flunked third grade.

HA!

So this client - same client as above was supposed to have his new railing installed tomorrow and all his furniture delivered on Staurday morning.

I've been telling him for just shy of two weeks that I need to pay the railing guy BEFORE it gets installed.

Send him my fedex number on Tuesday to send his check so at the lastest I'd have it Thursday morning.

He calls me and asked about the schedule and I told him that everyone was on and everyone is ready to go. Asked him if he sent the check - he said no that he would be out Saturday afternoon. I told him that that would be too late for the railing and the furniture.

Butthead has the nerve to get snippy and moan and groan that he should not have to pay first. Then he puts me on hold and has someone else get on the phone to say he has a family emergence and that he had to go.

BAH! (pussy - I hate a man that's a pussy)

He's going to get a huge life lesson on Saturday when he finds he has no railing, no cleaning lady and no furniture.

this world is a cruel place. i think velvett and lucidblue need to make out with each other and make it a better place. of course we need to tape it and show it for everybody on elite.

That's awesome. Remind me not to ever piss you off, you seem a bit vindictive to people who piss you off(not that it's a bad thing). You should take a camera to get the look on his face when he sees nothing has been done. :chomp:

I did some IT work for a friend's client last week, a law office. Now the lawyers are jerking around with the invoice and only offering to pay a fraction of what is owed.

Yes... people suck. they make the world suck and then the world makes the new people suck...

The only solution is to leave the country, and hook up with a nice young healthy man who is not yet spoilt, and still wants to make the best of it.

:)

What a moron this guy is. Please stick to your guns Velvette, he obviously never intended on paying before the delivery. I hate that shit, scheming (sp?) type of people. You hate to see an (maybe) otherwise good business relationship go sour at the end like this.

Ms. V., you should call his office tomorrow and leave a message that because of lack of payment that the work scheduled for this weekend can not be done. If they ask if you want to hold for him, tell them no thanks, that you understand he is very busy. Then you can see how fast this family emergency gets fixed.

Amazing that people think somebody's gonna install something in their house and let you give them the chance to string them along for weeks later trying to get paid.
