a runners diet...?

ok.... I've gotten some PMs about people who are
thinking of becoming runners.... long distance runners.

they have been bodybuilders in the past and want to
slim down overall and don't even mind losing some
muscle as they are a bit bulky to be a runner...

are there any runners out there that can give diet
suggestions for others who want to be runners...?

A runners diet should be:
60/30/10
(carbs/protien/fat), I do think that these ratios can be moved up to 70/20/10, in order to provide for the daily exersise regiment.

I think Cheeta, a member of this board, used to compete as a sprinter. He would give you a more closer look at the sprinters diets.

Mr.X

Hey does anyone know why sprinters look like bodybuilders overall? I mean not just their legs, but arms chest everything. Wouldnt the extra muscle in the upper body be a downside to overall speed? I know theyd look disproportionate but 10lbs of muscle on upper body can definetely screw up your perfomance. What do you think?

Sprinting involves a good amount of upper body strength for the initial burst. Try it next time you run quickly; burst off the line pumping your arms and it'll add power and explosiveness to your stride.

Outside magazine had a great article about nutrition for endurance sports in their April issue. I don't have the link to their site but you could google.

thanks MR X and all... are there any runners out there
reading this thread that can provide their diet and
sample meals...?

I have a NEW runner thats goaling himself to run
marathons and needs to slim down a bit but keep
himself fueled for running!

one of my good friends is consider in the top 2in the 100meter d1 up here in the northeast....if you see him with his shirt off he is very cut and jacked...but he only weights around 168...but you def need a strong upper body...it adds power off the line...lata g...
