i have zero experience in combat sports at all, however as of late iam becoming a little interested in this MMA thing , i have always been athletic but over the past 10 years i have just lifted and did cardio, sooo before "jumping" into a gym, i would like to read a little on the topic and do a little to prepare on my own, any advise or any good books on the topic would appreciated THANKS

look on the web more extensively . Ross' site is excellent , as is www.crossfit.com but the best thing you can do is watch the sport and become a fan . Download classic Matchups , and watch all the broadcasts that you can get away with . learn the rules , learn what to look for , and what not to do .

There is no substitute for hands on training...if you love it, get in it- find a style you like, research some area teachers/schools and go down and try a free lesson. Honestly, I remember a lady in one of my classes who signed up when she was at least 100 pounds overweight and could barely lift her leg off the floor for a kick, let alone touch her toes...she was so committed that in just 1 short year she was doing splits and took 3rd in a tournament...I have all the respect in the world for her. A guy like you who's athletically inclined and lifting for years will have no trouble at all...best of luck w/it.
