A Fresh Approach "Does Testosterone cause rage"

runitup

It's commonly assumed that testosterone, that stereotypically male hormone, is intimately tied to violence. The evidence is all around us: weight lifters who overdose on anabolic steroids experience "roid rage," and castration—the removal of the source of testosterone—has been a staple of animal husbandry for centuries.

"[Historically,] researchers expected an increase in testosterone levels to inevitably lead to more aggression, and this didn't reliably occur," says Frank McAndrew, a professor of psychology at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. Indeed, the latest research about testosterone and aggression indicates that there's only a weak connection between the two. And when aggression is more narrowly defined as simple physical violence, the connection all but disappears.

One psychologist, James Dabbs of Georgia State University in Atlanta, made a career out of conducting studies connecting testosterone to every kind of lifestyle imaginable. In his book Heroes, Rogues and Lovers, he noted that athletes, actors, blue-collar workers and con men tend to have higher levels of testosterone than clerks, intellectuals and administrators.

What Dabbs didn't address was whether this correlation was the cause or an effect of the environment these men found themselves in. Which is to say, are high-testosterone males more likely to become violent criminals, or does being a violent criminal raise a man's level of testosterone?

No one really knows the answer, but a growing body of evidence suggests that testosterone is as much the result of violence as its cause. Indeed, both winning a sporting match and beating an opponent at chess can boost testosterone levels. (On the other hand, losing a sporting match, growing old and becoming obese all reduce levels of testosterone.)
Changes in testosterone levels in response to challenges can be further shaped by our expectations. In one experiment that put a biological spin on the red state–blue state divide, researchers at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor had a volunteer "accidentally" bump into and then insult men who were raised either in the North or the South. The researchers hypothesized that Southerners come from a "culture of honor" in which aggressive responses to insults are culturally appropriate, and the results of their experiment bolstered that notion: Not only were Southerners more likely than their northern counterparts to respond with aggression, but their levels of testosterone also rose as a result. The Northerners, in contrast, were much less likely to experience an increase in testosterone
Arguably, the weak correlation between testosterone and violence gives us reason to be optimistic about the human race: Whereas other animals battle over mates as a direct result of their seasonal fluctuations in testosterone and other hormones, humans have discovered other ways to establish pecking orders. Which isn't to say that we can't rapidly adapt to the modern-day manifestations of our violent past: McAndrews's work demonstrated that one surefire way to raise a man's testosterone level is to allow him to handle a gun.

this is what ive learned so far and by no way am i anything but a noob when it comes to knowledge when it comes to this stuff but im on my third week of test enanthate and calm as hell but when it comes time for football practice and the games all i can think about is hitting some one and looking for huge hits thats it so i would say it makes u more violent when the circumstances call for it

puts a sense of calm in me, if i am going to rage its because i am italian and from ny i dont need test to do it... roid rage is simply letting the drugs get the best of you

My friend used to be ultra violent and aggressive. He then began starting to take steroids. His attitude actually totally changed, he wasn't violent or aggressive anymore and he actually said he didn't like himself or how he looked and thats the reason he used to be such a major asshole. Steroids made him look better and he felt better about himself so it actually made him more docile. From most of the bodybuilders at my gym that I talk to, they all agree roid rage is a farce. If your an asshole and think your the shit before you go on it of course your going to be more of an asshole cuz with the strength and size you gain you'll feel more powerful.

ya but i was a very calm non aggressive person trendsetter which i still am unless playing football which is pure contact though

I personally know of atleast 50 dudes that have taken several rounds of test or more. NONE, I mean none of them ever showed any signs of aggression. I can only recall one time that I seen a friend go age-shit. He threw this loud mouth punk across the dance floor, when the dude grab his girlfriends ass. We talked about it later and both agreed it was the Anadrol. It was the only thing he'd done different. This behavior was uncommon for him because he is soooo mild mannered. He was/is the type to walk away or talk it out, although he's plenty big enough to handle himself.

Got admit finally someone prints the truth, interestingly enough you will not find this in main stream press.

Test does not cause rage, rage causes test. That and being from the South and holding a gun so the the professor says.

I normally have a pretty short wick, but when I am on,disappointingly enough I feel nothing at all for getting into it with people.I am pretty mellow and would rather avoid an altercation alltogether.Quite the opposite of the roid rage theory..

I have to aggree I rights my world!

At least finally there is an opposing theory in the press the only thing is it will not make it out of the geek press. The NY Times is not going to run a headline “Scientists prove Test does not cause rage”.

Always trying to blame something for some assholes behavior. Could it be they are just an asshole.

Yeah, cause you're always in traffic with people who don't know how to fuckin drive!! When you live in a big city, you always get the fine opportuniy to experience out of town folk who drive like they're still in the country on their fuckin tractor. Shit, even my wife experiences roid rage, I know, she calls me all the time cussing and screaming obscenities while shes driving :D LOL I'm glad she doesn't have a gun :)

Traffic sucks ass but, Im out of atl by a couple of miles so it only hits me when we go to a club or something downtown.

Testosterone increases mood, an enthusiastic personality and a sense of well being. To most people that equates to feeling better. But if you have a rotton mood, a belligerant personality and an overall crummy view of the world, it's probably going to increase those feelings.

This is the problem.

It shouldn't be called "Roid Rage". It should be called "Assholes On Roids Rage."

couldn't of said it better!!

Actually, I took my first, meager, 250mg of test and the ONLY thing it did for me was make me horny more than once a week. (I'm 45, and definately quality for HRT and the little blue pill is my BEST FRIEND), but since on test...and it only started kicking in after, like, 3 days...I get wood when I even LOOK at my girl! That's IT.

I know for a fact (dealing with it before) that if you are an ASS HOLE in general, AS makes you a bigger A-hole. You already make test, naturally...you don't make "d-bol" in your nuts....

I haven't taken steroids but If some douche grabbed my wife's ass he'd go flying across the floor!!! Thats not roid rage, and I doubt it was the Anadrol's fault. What people don't know they are afraid of. Before I started researching steroids I thought roid rage was real, why cuz I didn't know better. Now after doing all the research and actually talking to people that do it, I realized I was the idiot for believing without researching.........which is wrong with America.....aren't there weapons of mass destruction in Iraq??? lol

When on Anadrol and Halo I get more agrivated at things. If I get to upset I just walk away. I am a super calm person but these two componds get me frustrated more.

It is controlable though.

Oh and tren gets me that way just because I lose sleep on it. I would be frustrated if I got no sleep and wasn't on tren though.

So ya I get a little testey on these compounds but you just have to realize that you can control it if you actually try.

i dont know very much but personally i think it causes for me to get extra adrenaline and i lose it when some one starts mouthing me no matter size or shape

My first use was test only cycles. I felt GOOD, centered, well being, and just fuckin awesome. Now add some dbolll, anavarr, shit load of pharm grade caffeine, and put me around stupid people then I can be set off. So I avoid stupid people and stressful situations when I'm feelin a little redlined but "roid rage" no I dont think so.
I luv hitting the caffeine 45min before training but I only do this 1 or 2 times a week max, on those day I keep myself in check or I will grow satan horns.
But a test only cycle you should be more than OK to go bro!

I do believe that you learn how to respond to situations. For instance, I find rudeness an awful trait and no matter how wound up I get, I would never insult someone. If the service is bad in a restaurant, I tell them, but I am always careful to make my point in a firm but polite manner.

Similar to using Roids. I am an excitable person anyhow and need to remind myself to cool down a little, but I know I would never ever resort to violence as I'm conditioned never to go down that route.
