a couple of powerlifting questions....

1.......... is there a rule that says you have to pull deadlifts in a contest with the bar in front of you??.. walkingbeast pulls more with a hack deadlift, than he does from the front. this may be odd, but could he compete like that at a contest.

2......... when performing rack lockouts......... do you pull the bar out of the j hooks, lower to the rack, then press. or just start with the bar in position on the pins.

3 - when doing speed, you dont let your butt sink into the box, or let the bar sink into your chest right???? well when going for a max board press, or max box squat.......... do you let yourself sink in there???

thanks guys, just somethings i cant figure out on my own.

I'll add in a question too if you don't mind:

When you do multiple reps on rack lockouts, do you come to a complete stop on the pins before you press back up?

1. yes, you have to face the bar.
from ipa rule book-
"The bar must be laid horizontally in front of the lifter's feet, gripped with an optional grip in both hands, and lifted upward in one movement until the lifter is standing erect. Stopping the bar is allowed, but no downward movement is allowed."

2. i start rack lockouts with the bar already resting on the pins.

3. i try not to let the bar sink into my chest on bench, if you do your not staying tight. boards are a different story, you kind let the bar sink into the board a little bit, you dont just go down and tap the boards. i dont know how you can let your butt sink into the box on box squats. you dont bounce on box squats if thats what you mean.

1. From USAPL Rulebook:
The bar must be laid horizontally in front of the
lifter’s feet, gripped with an optional grip in
both hands and lifted upwards until the lifter is
standing erect with the knees locked.

2. I don't do rack lockouts on bench very often, but I've always had them handed to me.

3. On my board presses, I don't sink into the board. It is more like a touch and go.

I answered his in the pl forum, but at the finish of the deadlift the shoulders have to be behind the bar.

What about the pin presses? Do you hit the pins on each rep or just come down almost to the pins (i.e. use them as a guide for the ROM).

on the box squat here is what i meant. i will go down and sit, pause for about a half to a whole second, then shoot up...(no rocking though). Bfold told me not to spend so much time down on the box, which i dont do now, but i wondered if i should spend that second on the box when doing a max.

and on bench, the bar doesnt actually sink into my stomach, i just kinda let it rest on top of it, i have a very large, and hard stomach.

in competition, you pull with the bar in front and pull and round out the shoulders!! that's been around for years. on rack lockouts, i pull from the pins. i've tried pulling out of the j-hooks, but powerlifting is all about conserving energy for the big lifts and doing this will exhaust it. on the box squats, you sit back and thrust/explode upwards. on the board presses, you do the same...rest the bar on the boards for a "hot" second and thrust/explode upwards. as for the pin presses, you do the same on the pin presses as you would on board presses, just a little quicker. when i did pin presses today, i pretty much sit the weight for a "hot" second and press upwards and repeat. when you do multiple rack lockouts, you do the same..rest it and then explode upwards. i hope this answers anyone's question. feel free to email me if you need to understand it more.

on pin presses always sit the bar back down and setup again. i like to press the wieght, let it come back down. and then i reset my lats, arm position, and get tight before i press again. same thing on pin pulls.

these guys hit everything on the head

i also do a rep on lockouts, re-grip, and do it again
