A Civilized Race Thread

I live in a neighborhood that was 99% white 20 years ago. At this point its probably between 60-75% white and continuing to change. My town since the end of the civil war era had its own section the was predominantly black and everything else was white. Over the last few years our neighborhoods in town have been becoming more and more concentrated with blacks. I have asked a few questions maybe someone can help me out with....

Why for such a long time was there such a separation between both races...i.e. a black section which was 99% black and a white section that was 99% white?

If there was such a large division between the two races for all these years, what has happened in the last five years that caused it to change so rapidly to the point where it is noticeable?

From my experience living here I have seen many black families move into this white neighborhood...Is it the same the other way around...are there white families that move into black neighborhoods?

If you were a minority would you want to move to a place that was the exact opposite of you?

Is there any reason these people choose to live in a white section rather than a black section that is more relative to them?

Which areas have a larger existence of crime...black neighborhoods or white neighborhoods?

Is the higher crime rate that my town has now opposed to the lower crime rate we had 10 years ago in any way related to a larger number of blacks living here?


I cant think of any other ideas to bring up. I would like to keep this thread as clean as possible because I am interested in other peoples input and I dont want anyone to give those few nazi mods that exist on this board a reason to lock this thread. I am not trying to start a race flame or anything like that. I must say even though as I become more and more of the minority in my area, a few of these black families that moved in are a lot nicer than the white assholes who used to call the cops on me for my noisy cars before. Most of them can care less if I drive up and down the street shaking their windows.

Any input would be appreciated.

My friend in Mississippi use to live in a neighborhood that was 90% KKK members. A black person moved into that neighborhood just to defy them because he didn't think they could or would do anything. A group of the KKK members got togeather to kill the black person. They brought molitov cocktails and were gonna throw them into the house. All of them got scared and decided not to, except for the ringleader. He lit his bottle and threw it in and the house went up in flames. The black person and his family ran out and were killed.

Sad really, I personally would never move into a neighborhood where I knew I would be hated.

I've been in a very rich black neighborhood. All of the houses were bought with drug money, you could tell they were all drug dealers. The crime was high there too, alot of domestic violence.

I've been in a rich white neighborhood. All of the people are rich snobs, and really hateful people. Most of them inheritated their money and would know what work was if it bit them in the ass.

I've been to an average black neighborhood. Most of the people were everyday all american families. Nothing wrong with it except the fact that all the cars were similar in style.

I've live in an average white neighborhood. It's everyday all american families.

I've been to a poor black neighborhood. Let me tell you, it was better than the rich black neighborhood. The crime was incredibly high but the crime/pop index was lower than the rich neighborhood. Alot of the people were on welfare too.

I've been to a poor white neighborhood. White trash all over, but not much crime. Mostly hicks and people on welfare.

So what am I saying? Rich blacks, poor blacks I met crime. Average blacks were like everyone else.

I have no problem with anyone around here. I talk to everyone since I fell I am attention starved and I like to talk. I dont really care what moves in as long as nobody fucks with my shit and they keep their places nice. Unfortunatly there are some bad people out there that l have been stealing shit around here and it's causing many of the people to sell their homes asap which is not good for the neighborhood as a whole since they sell for the first offer which is usually the lowest..

Hmmm generally higher crime is related to a large transient population, apparently. Are the folks who moved into your neighbourhood the same folks who have been living in the town before, or folks from out of town who stay a while then move on?

I guess it's easier to steal from folks you don't know than people who hvae been your neighbours for years....

....Are you serious?? Not to be a jerk, but, you *do* live in the US and have taken a few history classes right?

Whu did you use the phrase 'the exact opposite of you'? Obviously they are of the same socioeconomic status as everyone else in that neighborhood otherwise they wouldn't have the money to purchase a house in that neighborhood.

My question to you is, why *wouldn't* they want to move into your neighborhood? Assuming it is a nice, safe, decent place to raise a family, and in a good school district, no matter what your skin color, or what your neighbor's skin color or ethnic background is? Doesn't everyone want what is best for their own family, especially in terms of safety and education?

Section 8 housing accounts for some of the introduction of lower income folks into previously all-white neighborhoods, but the black middle class is growing as well. Your post is basically saying the old cliche: "there goes the neighborhood".

Sounds like you preferred segregation. Even South Africa has gotten over apartheid, maybe you should too.

The thing is if people just sit back and are forced not to speak their mind... then you see these acts of violence. If people are angry, they need to talk about it and come up with a solution.... not be forced to keep their mouths shut.

I would say crime tends to occur in poorer places. Some blacks prefer to segregate themselves, and when the more well off black folks segregate themselves there is very little crime. Why would a rich person of any race, feel the need to commit crime? Poor blacks aren't the only ones committing crime. Just watch COPS.

Advaik makes it appear that if you're rich you have had to be dealing in drugs. Maybe that's how it is in whatever fucked up state he is from, but in the maryland/VA/DC area this is not the case. I've met very successful blacks, latinos, middle easterners, and asians in my area, the only crime they commit is probably the same crime anyone commits (stealing cable, internet gambling, etc).

Yes I have taken a few history classes, and I wanted to know why after all these years there is a change. I could understand it if it happened maybe 30 years ago. But up until the last 5 years or so there was no real change. Obviously if this all happened 30 years ago it could be a result of the civil rights movement. But what kinda social movement happened recently that caused it to change all of a sudden...The timing seems off.


By saying exact opposite i was referring to their skin color. Thanks to assholes like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, they have continued to remind us that there are differences between all of us. By listening to the way these guys speak of the white population, would you want to move into a place being the only one that looks different (since they make white people out to be so bad)???

Theres a kid that lives around the corner from me who I've become friends with over the last couple of months we've worked together. He comes from an upper middle class black family. His married parents gave him a good education. All the stereotypes against black familys were non existant if you looked at this kids background. Not sure if he was lying or not, but he told me back when he was 13 and 14 he used to steal cars for fun. He doesnt seem like the type of kid to steal a car but if it's true then you can see people of all economic upbringing committing crime...

think about it, your environment pretty much dictates what you're going to do. if you're a kid growing up, you want desperately to fit in. Some places fitting in means playing football for your highschool, some places that means stealing cars.

When I grew up, I dealt drugs. I was raised in a white, middle class neighborhood. But my friends did drugs, and so did I. My friends dealt drugs and so did I. My friends drank all the time and got arrested by the cops for stupid shit like tresspassing and under age drinking, and so did I.

Your environment is a huge factor in what you do. So I'm not surprised that your black friend stole cars growing up. It was probably fun for him and his friends.

Property values here have increased just like every other town in the last 10 years.

But- in the early 80's there is a town next to ours that was all white and eventually turned 95% black. Today a house there goes for $100,000.00 where as a house here of the same size goes for over $300,000.00.

Also, on the other side- a town that is 95% white-a house of the same size sells for an average price of $400,000.00

This may be because of peoples perceptions about race or it might be the crime that surrounds different groups of people. In the first town I mentioned they may have one robbery a week. In my town there may be 1 robbery a month...and in the all white town there may be 1 robbery a year. I used robbery as an example, the real numbers are actually more proportionaly.

So far, most comments have been on the shifting of a neighborhood complection from white to black. Washington DC and surrounding counties are a great example of that type of demographic movement. After the civil rights movement many previously white neighborhoods changed from 90% white to 90% black in a few short years(Petworth).

Now however it appears that the white folks are moving back into the neighborhoods they abandoned 30 years ago. The truth of the matter is that these neighborhoods changed from nice to trashed. Then the comfortably middle class blacks didn't like the trashiness either so they fled too (to PG County). That left magnificent victorian housing stock that was then bought up by returning white folks, they saw a value(Shaw and Dupont-Logan Circle and more recently Columbia Heights).

It's been a see saw movement and one that is seeing the black population in DC declining and the white population increasing. Let me tell you, the blacks are none to happy about it either, this type of movement diminishes their political clout. And the black folk can be as bigoted and prejudicial as any KKKer.

These people are all MULTI-MILLIONAIRES, and a good example of why crime is not always related to socio-economic status.
