9 easy steps to a flat tummy ...

SteelWeaver

New member
The headline inthe lifestyles insert of the paper yesterday.

My question: When will the f**king media stop telling people that getting and then maintaining a flat tummy is easy. On the contrary, it is HARD, very very very HARD, requiring planning, knowledge, discipline, hard and smart work, endless patience and an ability to see beyond the moment.

This type of crap pisses me off. People then think that because they don't have a flat tummy there is something very wrong with them, since if it's so easy, why don't they have it? Talk about opiates for the fucking masses - give 'em all a guilt and inferiority complex so huge they'll never squeak when an important opinion might be required.

Oh yah, sure they mentioned exercise ... gentle walking or swimming. And more intense cardio to "flush out the water that is retained by the body under the skin". And ab exercise to tone - no mention of course of the MONTHS of HARD dieting they have to do to be able to SEE the nice toned abs!

Veggie juices. Fibre.

Nothing real.

Fools.

:(

(My rant for today)

GOOD FOR YOU, Steel and very well said. And yes, the message that one is unworthy if you cannot achieve a super flat stomach since it is so easy...is very apparent.

All it takes, really is reading all of these articles....no exercise and no dieting required. And cardio is the answer to everything! Good lord, I look like Monica Brant just from reading all the nonsense. Poof and I am fit.

Blech -- and we wonder why people suffer from body image problems...

So, you are saying you disapprove of these types of articles?

Getting a flat stomach is not that complicated...

Burn more than you take in - and work the muscles - pretty simple.

bah - never mind

:)

i was quite surprized the other day when i was reading the paper on my way to work. in the lifestyle section there was an article which was a review of a new book on fitness. the book was basically about how people could get fit by doing only 30 minutes of strength exercises a week :eek2: and i was pleasantly surprised that the article was bashing the book and saying that it was complete nonsense and it was another one of the stupid gimmicks promising people great bodies with very little effort :D

Damn, I also thought Steel had cracked the secrets to a flat stomach :(

Agree with Cornholio though. Now if only it were that easy to get lean thighs and butt, THEN I'd be a happy woman.

Of course, I've seen women with a 'flat' stomach that had no visible abs.....

Exactly...thats why I said "flat tummy"....not ripped midsection.....

:)

OK Steele you got me with the tittle. please oh please tell me how to get that flat tummy.

But hey I was wondering : do short waisted women have a harder time getting that "flat, toned tummy"?

I ask cause I am one short waisted woman. The only place I really carry much fat is right below my belly button. Being short waisted I surmised means having less space to spread the fat across-What cha think????????

valerie

I am short waisted and don't have problems, but I have heard that other factors, such as the way your pelvis tilts, can also make it harder to acheive a flat look. It depends on if you really have more fat there, or is it just your reproductive organs and intestinal contents pushing what fat you DO have outwards. In other words, some women may have the exact same skinfold reading as you, but have a flatter lower ab due to the way they're put together or dietary differences.

Its funny both my mom and grandmother have this same little pouch. It does go away when contest dieting, but until then..

I do eat tons of fibrous veggies so that could contribute. I see all these young things with the flat bellies or hardbellies as my hubby calls them.

Yep me and my pot belly or even better a buddha belly-valerie

lmao - some funny responses here. I just needed to get that off my chest :) So tired of people either knowing what to do and not doing it, or having no clue and just doing whatever they're told to by so-called "experts" in the national media.

Most people in the civilised world appear to be in severe denial about what they put into their mouths every day, if my mum and class-mates are anything to go by. My mum knows the story back to front inside out - but still won't do anything about it. She asked me to make a diet for her, telling me she just can't understand why she can't lose "weight", since she's cut out almost all carbs, and eats lots of lean protein and good fresh veggies etc - no more bread, pasta, potatoes, etc., and really doesn't eat that much. So what I'm wondering is what all those pies and cakes and ginger snaps and rusks and lemon creams that come out at tea-times are made of, if not carbs???? ha ha ha ha ha.

I said sure, I'll make you a diet, but first write down every single thing you put in your mouth for a week, so we can see what you're maintaining on. Ah, but no, she couldn't do that, because then I'll know about all the snacks etc. But ma! I ALREADY know, and so do you, so why the ongoing denial? Ah, yes, I know I'm in denial, but chocolates are easier .....

Sigh.

And my classmate thinks wholewheat crackers with cream cheese is "healthy" for lunch. The sad thing is - it IS healthier than what she usually eats .....

JJ - I won't be competing for at least 2-3 years - unless it's powerlifting. I want to buckle down and work on building some nice thick strength and muscle before dieting it all off again. I'm gonna be a big girl :)

I've been around - just super busy trying to catch up and remember my entire high school maths syllabus, and the whole of high school chemistry and physics that I never did anyway, so that I can sort of get a clue of what the lecturers are nattering on about in class. It's coming together slowly, but I'm having to spend hours and hours and hours studying and tackling problems. My life is eat, sleep (not enough), cook, train, study.

Nice and simple :)

Steele-I'm gonna be a big girl!!!!!!

You betcha honey here we are all "big girls".

Good for you!Getting down to business-valerie

I have a somewhat flat stomach but taking estragen doesn't help plus all the protein always leaves me with a bloated feeling. I have to laugh because I do some really good ab work and then I go have a protein shake which will blow me up. Go figure:confused:
