75th, you fucking suck

Bor, you serious? That movie was 87 different flavors of pure pwnage. Wikus in the mech suit > Jesus dying on the cross for our sins.

What wasn't to like about it?

Don't get me wrong...the alien weapons were tits.

The suit was cool, no doubt. Those energy files, sweet.

But compared to the rest of the ho-hum festival that comprised the movie and its boring story...the booms! and the zaps! were marginal.

You know their names? You nerdvirgin faggot.

lol it's the name of the main character bor.

Jack...it makes sense if you realize that the movie isn't about the aliens, but rather about Wikus and, obviously, human nature as a whole.

You took his advice on movies? The next thing you know, you'll be licking his political balls. No disrespect.

I knew someone would drop this kind of line. Do you really think, for even half a second, that I don't get that? The movie wasn't subtle...the choice of a shit-heap like South Africa wasn't coincidental.

But, unfortunately, social commentary in a film is meaningless if it isn't entertaining. There wasn't even a remotely compelling story. Human nature as a whole? Obviously...it was pretty heavy-handed, and nothing especially deep.

Every movie, every story, fails if it isn't engaging. We've explored all these ideas before. Does anyone line up for more social commentary? Ooo, yes please! ...If a movie is going to do the same old shit, it better do it well.

This movie more-or-less went nowhere, the superficial and trite message (some people took from it) notwithstanding. The aliens themselves weren't sympathetic in the least (intentionally perhaps), or interesting/intelligent except for Christopher.

An interesting twist on the alien concept and yet another depiction of humans as assholes...if that's enough to make a movie good, so be it. But really, it was just meh.

On a lighter note,

3 for 3 in the bookie bitchez!! Cha-Fucking-Ching!!!!

Aight we may just have to agree to disagree. I look at this movie like I look at Children of Men...the message itself is relatively generic, but thats more than made up for by the world that the movie creates...which is what really helped engage me in the story. I personally thought that the transition of Wikus ending up being more human as an alien* compared to at any point when he was actually indeed a human was well done. I understand that the message was nothing revolutionary, but again it was the combination of the depiction of the character along with the technical brilliance of the environment the movie created for him to live in. Maybe Im an easy lay.

Also, how could you not think the aliens were sympathetic? Phags just wanted to collect their bukkake and go home.

I have to agree with Jack's assessment about socio-drama's, in general (I've not seen this particular film, yet). When I first read the original tagline~paraphrasing now~: "Aliens have landed, now they just want to go home", I thought it was a hilarious concept.

Fair enough, my nizzle. I can't tell you that it was bad, or that you shouldn't like it. We were looking for different things, or valued what we found differently.

I thought Children of Men was a good film primarily because of the end...when they're walking out with the only newborn child in the world, so fragile and miraculous, in the midst of the such danger and utter desolation...you have to pay attention.

I've never seen that in a film before, and it was one of the most powerful scenes I can remember because I could understand the breathtaking significance of the moment without ever having lived in that world.

Although it's unfair to compare, District 9 could never have shown something so moving.

As for the aliens...they looked and sounded ugly. For the most part, they were also stupid and dangerous (I prefer aliens living on my planet to be like ET or Star Trek hotties, not like Predator minus the weapons and intelligence). I'm not saying they would cause a problem if treated with respect and kindness (which they obviously weren't), but I'm not sure I'd want them roaming around, either.

Wikus, although a douchebag, was sympathetic...I remember thinking that it would suck to be in his position. However, I wasn't particularly impressed by his transformation due to extraordinary circumstances.

I did want to fuck his wife, however.

Indeed. That scene in Children of Men was phenominal.

It was so-so and I was expecting more. The filming of it was excellent. The plot was good. The movie towards the ending just didn't do it for me.

Well then...there is no pleasing you!

You rang?

How was he a pussy? Negro liquified about 12 folks, but his intention wasn't to go on a killing spree. It was to get his ass fixed up so Christopher Johnson could stop teh alien geigh from continuing to spread.

Dude wasn't out to kill a whole bunch of folk. It was to get from point A to point B.

He stood there and got shot up like a helpless 'tard, stopping to finally blast someone maybe once every minute.

you best believe i would be doing backflips off trailers while spraying bullets nonstop so that every human in sight would be annihilated before my suit could even get a dent

The projector went out in the last five minutes and we got free passes to compensate. Whatabunch o crap. It was interesting. Mech suit scene was cool shit.

so glad i didnt go.

There's a part where the blaque dude is flying a jet & they're like, trying to figure out how to work the weapons system. Some chic pops up with "the dude was Scottish, maybe it's in Gaelic!" I swear I actually heard the audience collectively cringe.
