5x5 Soreness Question

Do you guys still train if you're sore? I'm supposed to go to the gym tomorrow and try for a couple of PRs and my chest is still sore. I'm just assuming it still will be tomorrow. In that case what's recommended? Still go for the PRs?

Thanks all...

Just make sure to do a few extra warm up sets and by the end of those your chest shouldn't be sore any more.

Unles you pulled something.

soreness is not directly related to anything. U can still lift.

Timely reply. And yes, soreness has no relation to anything whatsoever, including the nature of the stimulus and conditioning.

If you're not lifting until tomorrow, the soreness may well subside. In the meantime, apply some active recovery techniques. This may include stretching, massage, hot/cold showers, light chest work (a few easy sets of pushups, for example).

I'd still lift if sore, unless you're talking injury-sore. Your ability to set PRs may be affected, but you can still lift. Worse case scenario, assuming you're not injured, you won't hit a PR but there's always next week.

Question -- what did you do to cause pain? Unless you're relatively new to the 5x5 or really pushing hard, I'm a bit surprised if you're that sore and especially if it persists for 2 days. That kind of muscle soreness usually goes away once you adjust to the 5x5 frequency. And even then, if you get sore, it's my experience that it only lasts a day.

My first 5x5 cycle my legs were always extremely sore, never my chest. This second time around though I've been doing pretty good. Week 6 and nothing real extreme yet, been taking it light on basketball work though which I did not do the 1st time around on 5x5.

Like protobuilder said, get in some recovery work.

soreness means your muscle is still ripped

humm so why does it take a while for you to get sore?
if you have not lifted in a while and are starting. doesent the soreness seem to be worse on the second day? does that mean the muscle is ripping more and more?

can you grow with out ripping your muscle? what if i do not get sore after a work out? did not as you say "rip my muscle?"

check out this link.. below.

DOMS/soreness has nothing to do with a stimulative or productive workout. If you can train than do so. If not, and you are sore to the touch it might be injurious so put it off. You could also do some very light work in the area to facilitate recovery if you a super sore. DOMS mainly manifests when frequency is low, most people using higher frequencies get conditioned to the load fairly quickly.
