5x5 on cycle.

Yo guys, I'm still around. Bout to hop on Sust(500mg) and Deca (500mg) and wont to run 5x5 this time.

Any suggestions on progression? The normal routine calls for very small increments every week. I'm thinking I'm going to be able to out do that.

I don't want to lift to light by following the program and waste the cycles potential...thanks

The 5x5 is realyl dynamic IMO and you will not waste a drop of the gear if your gaol is to get stronger - nothing will add more strength that squatting 3x a week.

I know and agree. What I'm asking is should I alter 5x5's protocol? It calls for small incremental increases in weight. I'm thinking I should make larger jumps while on.

Thx!

I believe the program says to find your 5x5 max to start. I dont think it is required to increase only a little if you can do 5x5 still with whatever you increase it to W/O losing your form. But it does say if you can not finish to reset your weight lower and start to work your way up again. I am no expert just now looking into. I am not sure if that is for me peronally since a three day split of heavy weights 4-5 sets with one warmup while increasing weight after that seems to work well for me.

Although it is still tempting to me

I can tell you from experience it's phenomenal. How weird is it to get stronger between cycles? I did with 5x5. And it's not like I was weak. I'm dying to see what happens to my squat doing 5x5 on a cycle!

I'd suggest running successive loading phases. One of the 'problems' with running a dual factor 5x5 on gear is that by the time you reach week 4 and are supposed to be going all out hitting maxes, the gear is kicking in and letting you recover quicker and, what's more, your max is no longer a max. Everyone should have this problem. :)

Just run the 5x5 using the dual-factor template but keep adding weight to the bar whenever you can. The volume plays straight into the imroved recovery of being on cycle. You're essentially aiming to make single-factor gains as you ride the gear to get onto the PR train for as long as the ride lasts. What I'd expect to happen is that you'll stall in week 5, regardless, and then you should take a week of deload using triples and then get straight back to volume work the following week until you stall again.

Just use your best judgement as to how much to add to the bar. If you add too much you'll know it and can drop down between sets or just add less the following week or stay the same, depending on how badly you over-estimated. If you add too little then make a bigger jump the following week or add a little between sets.

Just make sure that your final deload happens before the esters clear and that you're into the intensity phase by the time PCT is under way.

If you're planning a single-factor 5x5 then that's fine too but you might find the volume a little low. Just play it by ear.

I would place your maxs as high as you can and run it just as it calls for. I thought the same thing for the first couple of weeks. It will kill you wks. 6-10!!!

The first 3-4 weeks should be fairly easy. I think you could alter it and start on say week 4 and go from there.

Thoughts?

That's a pretty good idea. Maybe set it up so I'm trying to set PR's from week 4 on out. I'm going to look into the dual factor then get back in here...
