5x5 - Deload Vs Pure Deload?

5x5 - Bill Starr - Glenn Pendlay 5x5 - Periodized Version, Dual Factor Theory

In the above website, it says that you do the 5x5 phase of the program for 4 weeks, then after that you can either:

Weeks 5-9: Deload & Peak 3x3
Or
Weeks 5-6: Pure Deload

This was my first time trying out a 5x5 program & I went with the "Deload & Peak" as opposed to the "Pure Deload". I'm at week 8 & it doesn't feel as if my size gains are increasing at all. My strength gains sure, but I can't see how any hypertrophy can be achieved with the 3x3 phase. Is the whole point of the 3x3 phase to gain STRENGTH and not SIZE?

The 5x5 phase felt good for increasing size, but I just feel like I'm wasting my time doing the "Deload & Peak 3x3" phase as it's only going to be increasing my strength.

My main goal is size. Would you say it'd be better to go with the "Pure Deload" phase as that's only Weeks 5-6, as opposed to the "Deload & Peak" phase which is Weeks 5-9.

Like I said above, I just feel as if I'm wasting my time with doing the 3x3 phase, as it seems like it's going to do nothing for hypertrophy.

I'm just not sure which route to go down & could use some help, thanks.

Go with how your body feels bro. I don't really stick to one routine because you need to constatly adapt your training to your surroundings. When you stop making progress or start getting weaker or stay where you are at then it is time to deload and let your CNS recover.
