I love deadlifts and they were my strongest lift for years but I compressed two discs over a year ago and everytime I dl over 250 or so my back will be in excrushiating pain and not the good kind of pain.. I think i should stay away from exercises that focus on pure lower back in general so good morning isn't an option.. what else should I do on wednesdays? I was thinking I could do power shrugs and weighted pull ups.. what are your opinions?

If deadlifts bother your injured discs I wouldn't think that power shrugs would be a good thing, as you'd be handling substantial weight there also.

Don't remember where they're usually put in the program, but weighted chins I'd think would be fine. How about hyperextensions? Maybe they'd be a way to at least do some work for your lower back without the heavy loading that causes you problems.

well i don't know if i injured it snowboarding by compression by landing really flat onto ice or by deadlifting or squating wrong but pretty much my inner disk stuck out of my outer thats waht the physical thereapist said.. deadlifts are what really bothers it the next day but light lifting does not.. infact light lifting usually helps it. I have good form now with bent over rows so those dont hurt..

I did 100 pd dumbell shrugs last week and they didn't hurt at all but im sure i would be doing alot more power shrugging maybe ill just give it a go..

don't. my mum has sciatica and it can be caused by deadlifting with incorrect technique, it's not something you want. find an alternative.
