Like madcow says in the first reply in the thread below, what you get out of the program (e.g. mass, strength) will obviously vary with your diet, but a program's basic effectiveness relative to other methods doesn't.
I've started the single-factor 5x5 and I'm still trying to shed bodyfat. So far, my strength has gone back up to my all-time highs and the fat's still coming off. My results might be better if I were bulking but good training is good training.

A training theory is a training theory. dieting is about calories in vs. calories out. you can apply either a caloric deficit or surplus to any theory.
