5x5 and cardio

Hey bros,

I am looking for advice on when I should put a little cardio in the mix. I need to drop a few lbs of fat, and up the cardiovascular conditioning. I would like to throw some HIIT training in there, as I can do it for shorter periods of time. I must have ADHD because I cant sit on a treadmill for an hour everyday...

I was thinking of doing some type of HIIT for 15-20mins after my workout. Possibly on the bike or treadmill, but im worried that it might be too much. I could do it on my off days, but again im worried that I won’t be fully resting.

whets everyone ideas on this.

Well, you're squatting 3 days a week, and that is what drives the whole thing, so don't lose sight of your priorities or compromise them. That said, if you just want to recomp a little, you could probably just clean some crap out of your diet and not evn miss the cardio.

If you want to do the cardio for conditioning purposes, you could do HIIT in the mornings of lifting days, then weights in the PM, or cardio on off-days, or even like you said after the workouts....lol, basically there is no way to do it wrong so long as it is managed and it doesn't interfere with the squats. Personally, I'd keep it to once a week or none at all and scale back the calories a little, then maybe later run a phase where you drop deads and cut back on squats and do more sprinting/conditioning.

good to know. i think I will just do some HIIT on the bike for like 10mins twice a week or so after my workouts. I just dont want to over do it, and kill my squats.

Just look into how many calories whatever you do burns and see if it is something you want to bother with. Meaning, if it burns 300 cals and kills your suats, it isn't worth it when you can just easily trim 300 cals from your diet.

Conditioning is important, but keep in mind priorities, it is tough to maximize everything at once.
