3 weeks of HIT, results so far

well, ive done 10 workouts in 3 weeks and have put on 3 pounds.

im sure its from the workout because i havent changed my diet, and i workout as soon as i wake up on an empty stomach and after i take the morning shit...

and i wasnt consistantly gaining weight on the diet im on when i was just lifting heavy. my bf% is also the same, which goes uo/down by .5% weekly

things i notice:

my delts, triceps, biceps and forearms have never looked better...
i didnt take measurements, but i would have to say i gained at least 1/4 of an inch on my flexed arm. and my front and side delts look more seperated and developed.

my quads and back also look different. my inner thighs have more shape. my lats from the front appear to have more depth by the serratus, and my traps are becoming more distinct when i wear a t shirt. my calves also are looking better...

my only complaint are my hams (which i dont really care about how they look, lol) and my chest.... :(

my chest never developed well as far as size. i do have great chest workouts, but i think my delts and tris are getting all the benifits... ill work on adding more flys then pressing for my chest..

i really wish i had pics, they would do more justice...

my weights have gone up to. i know this because on the first day i went to failure on every exercise... now, this is failure on that paticular set, i could not do one more perfect rep nor one more set of that amount of reps...

i recorded the weight and took it from there.

here are some stats

squat - 185x8 F, to 205x10 NF (not failure)
flat bench - 135x12 F to 155x10 F
skulls - 65x8 F to 75x10 NF
military - 65x8 F to 80x8 F
hammer row - 45x8 F to 55x10 F (each side)
curl - 45x12 F to 70x10 F

there are about 6 other exercises i didnt list

now, i know the weights are really low, coming from a guy who has benched 385 and squated and deaded over 450... (just saying for comparison)

i didnt want my ego to get ahead of me. so i started low, and it turned out doin a 6 second rep continuesly is harder then it sounds. along with supersetting the exercises. i was so used to exploding each rep, and reps of 3-5 mind you, my muscles never got a chance to work against gravity in its all, let alone goin to 8-12 reps.

im goin for 5 more weeks. then repeating the program a few more times, using different techniques.

the best advice for anyone who is willing to try HIT...

GET A PARTNER! and go for the pain!!!

You on any gear? I never cared for HIT, too easy to get an injury but any new stimulus to the body should give you some gains.

gear no, i somewhat agree with the last statement.

FYI: anytime you increase the load/intensity its new stimulus to the body...

Well as long as your making gains who cares whats right and whats wrong. My main problem with HIT is that if your muscles and joints are not warmed up, you are more likely to get injured lifting at maximum intensity.

right i warm up for about 15 mins...

the book i have suggest that the first 2-3 reps will be the warmup, which i disagree with

Im Familiar with Mike Mentzers form of HIT, which was really low volume. What your doing sounds like normal exercise with a really hard set to take the muscle to failure at the end. I guess HIT has evolved since I read a lot about it 5 or so years ago.

well, menzter learned from the author of the book i have, and he tweaked it to fit his lfiestyle and such.

i am doin 12 exercises per day, 1-2 sets per exercise, usually 2 exercises per muscle.

optional negatives, drop sets and super sets.

i add those in toward the end of the week

What does the split look like?

I have been playing around w/ DC for the past 2 weeks and it is a real killer. I agree w/ an above post that if it works who cares what other say - as I am sure you are as well.

the book doesnt really touch on menzters training, it did touch on Yates, who was trained by mentzer.

i recall a back work out that yates did, it went something like this:

deads 1x8
bb row 1x8
pulldown 1x8
hammer row 1x8
rear delt raise 1x8
shurg 1x8

something along those lines, im guessing minimal rest between exercises, maybe 1 min tops.

al sets taken to failure

it must have took 15 mineuts or so, then he went on to biceps.

You ever look into DoggCrapp? It is pretty much the asme thing but w/ a short rest (like 15 breaths) at failure then 3-4 more reps, than another 15 breath rest, then 1-2 more reps.

It is really tough - I love it.

I'm pretty damn sure yates didn't do anything like that for his workouts.. have you seen his training video? HIT authors like to take trips to fantasyland, especially Darden and the later junk Menter came out with.

Dante/DC has made many posts about not wanting any association with 'HIT', and what he reccomends is nothing like traditional HIT. And I guarentee you DC would be a major improvement over what you're doing

HIT = High Intensity Training, Dorian did not train HIT style he did a ton volume and went to failure that way. He is known to have one of the best work ethics ever. I think HIT is inferior to volume training but you can make gains from it nonetheless, I have. I train with volume now and find that my body responds better to it. Many hard gainers love HIT though.
