28 and had a heart attack!

Hi guys,

I haven't posted in a while because of a new job. The reason I'm writing is that a week ago Sunday afternoon and again a week ago early Monday morning, I had really bad pain in my chest. I had been sick for a couple of days before, so I thought it was indigestion. I was at the tail end of a sust/anadrol/winny cycle. I went to the emergency room in the wee hours of Monday morning. They put me on an EKG, saw the result ( heart attack), then immediately pulled me into a room, flooded me with beta blockers, nitro glycerine & morphine. I spent the next 5 days in the cardiac intensive care unit of NY hospital. I drank heavily and used coke for a number of years, though I've been sober for almost 2 years and I like to think I'm in pretty good shape. My cholesterol is 155.

While they will never know exactly what caused this, I do not have coronary artery disease, as they ran a catheter from my groin to my chest to check this out.

All I'll say is that some years of drinking, drugging and gear probably didn't help matters and probably caused this in one way or another. It looks like I'll be OK, but won't be able to workout strenuously for quite a while. I'm not writing this to flame gear or anything like that.

All I will say is to be careful and treat your bodies kindly. Clearly, I am done with gear forever and any thought of getting drunk is long gone.

Hope all is well and say a prayer for me when I get back to the gym.

Peace,

Bill W

Very strange for that to happen to you without any major risk factors.

A few question for you if you do not mind.

Do you smoke?
What was your blood pressure?
and

Do you lift heavy weights? (squats, dead lifts ect).

Hope you have a speedy recovery

Dude it's the coke and drinking that did your heart in. Coke can easily damage the Heart. I have heard stories of ex-coke users that have been clean for a long time suffering hert attacks from suddenly running across a street.

Hope everything turns out fine for you and you live a long prosperous life with a wife and grandkids.

God Bless.

Sorry to hear about that my friend! Like you said, the Coke, drinkin and AAS did not help matters much but heart conditions may also run in your family as well. Either way, I wish you the best! May you live a healthy and happy life

I hate hearing news like this - a guy gets clean for a few years, is taking care of himself, hitting new goals, and BAM. Life is tough.
I wish the best for you. I know you must be pretty bummed right now, but the positive side is you are alive - think of the alternative.
I had a long history of alcohol in my life, but never got into the coke. I smoked pot for a few years also, but that was 10 years ago. I haven't heard much about people with heart attacks from alcohol abuse AFTER they quit for a number of years, but I do know the coke is a tyrant on the pumper.
Thanks so much for informing us. As much as a lot of us don't want to admit it, there are coke abusers in this crowd and they need to hear a story from a real brotha' here.
If you wouldn't mind telling, what weight and bodyfat % are you? How was your blood pressure? Did you monitor it during your cycle? Blood pressure is something I always watch after having going above 140 a few times recently. Thanks for the info.
Good luck. I'll shoot you a prayer.

Coronary artery spasm.

Definite link to coke, some hypothetical links to AAS, suggested synergistic effect (coke + AAS).

Stimulants might do it as well (i.e., clen, ECA, etc.)

Even though you're total cholesterol is fine, my guess is that your HDL was pretty low as a function of the anadrol and winny. There are a couple of case reports out there that report guys having MIs without CAD who are using AAS, particularly orals. The cause was a coronary artery spasm, may be LDL cholesterol related. Gotta be careful when they checked you cholesterol. Post MI can really screw up the values.

Shit does happen in some guys on gear, but I'll bet the farm that prior coke use was a player in this one.

Another case of demons coming back to haunt. Take care of yourself bro' and go easy on the weights post recovery. do your best to stay heart smart and I wish many healthy, happy years to you.

I agree with you guys 100%. I mentioned the coke because I really think that's what caused this. For the record, I've never been hypertensive, even while I was drinking alot. I don't smoke, either. My cholesterol has always been below 160; low cholesterol runs in my family. I guess the main reason I wrote about this was just to state that my story is one of those that you always think will hapen to someone else.

For those that asked, I'm 6'2'', and right now I'm 226, though during the cycle I was up as high as 238. I am not ripped by any means, and the last time I had my bf checked was about 6 months ago and it was 11.5%.

I don;t know why I posted here, just mainly to say that everyone should be careful with the blow. I used it pretty regularly (twice a week) for about 4 years and drank a ton. I guess I feel kind of cheated that I quit and had this happen, but I guess I'm lucky to be alive.

Thanks for the support.

Goddamn dude-glad your here to share your experience. I too am a recovering addict/alcoholic and am coming up on 5 years. I've always wondered if the massive amounts of coke I did damaged my heart permanantly. I guy I knew had 20 years sobriety when he died of a heart attack.

Did you tell your doctor about the gear? Where you using any thermos/stimulants? Sorry for all the questions but I think we fit the same mold.

Did u actually had a heart infarct (some of your heart muscle is dead) of just an ischemia (all your heart muscle is still alive and kicking)?

In the latter case, with no coronary structural disease, u will most probably get back to a perfectly normal training, with no restrictions whatsoever (after the appropriate medical clearing, stress test and so on...).

If your coronary artery were fine at the angiogram that means all the drinking and alike has nothing to do with your recent heart attack.

There are few cases of heart infarct reported in medical literature in youg men using aas, sometimes together with clen and other stuff.

There are also few reports of aas related acute thrombosis.

In a sentence: there are many bad things which we do not yet know, about high dose aas and bad health.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

your heart attack (and any heart attack really) is a central nervous system issue..did you ask/or did the doctors say anything about nerve interference or damage? maybe due to a sublixation?

I say this because your heart in a muscle..all muscles are innervated by nerves...your brain tells your muscle via these nerves how to function..if you have any interference or a sublixation inyour spine, it could easily be treated..

i say this because you've mentioned all the factors that involve this: you dont have coronary "disease" or have high cholesterol etc. etc...

so obviously its a nerve issue..check it out..get an xray of your spine to see if there is any interference or sublixation

i had a serious prostate prob and i thought it would never happen to me yet i continue the gear....if i had a heart attack i think i would surely have to ditch the gear...get well bro

Thanks guys,

To answer some of your questions:

Yes, I definitely told the doctors about the gear. To be honest, I'm not sure they knew what to make of it. They still think there's a chance it could have been myocarditis, but they kind of latched onto the coke history.

In terms of whether some of the heart is "dead," I was told that some of the heart in the "apex" was "damaged" but that there can be some healing over time, though I don't know anything about this.

In terms of thermos, yes, I have used them, but not a ton, and none recently. I used clen about 2 years ago but had very bad headaches and couldn't continue with that, so I doubt that was responsible.

Hey, bro, I'm sorry to hear this and I wish you nothing but the best and a speedy recovery. Also, CoQ10, Hawthorne Berry, Magnesium and L-Carnitine all help heal a damaged heart. Also, Carnosine, B12, B6, Folic Acid and Calcium will help at the cellular level to heal and repair. Finally prayer is probably the best medicine yet. Good luck and God bless you brother.

Been there, done that dude. 2 months ago. They went through my leg too but I only had to stay in the hospital for 2 days. I was a smoker and that did me in. cholesterol 135, Blood Pressure normal 100-110. I'm 44 years old but it's shocking to hear it happened to you at such a young age. Not sure when exactly that this happened to you. Mine was July 17 2009. Let me hear from you about what you're doing as far as weight lifting. Thanks

Oldass thread (but maybe you knew that - just FYI!)

I can't believe those low cholesterol numbers and a heart attack. Nuts.
