2010 Camaro SS

what with the future of General Motors uncertain; i hope the camaro will still be built. :worried:

I like how they seem to finally be moving away from the plastic interior attachments and moving towards the exotic leathers and outer stitching. Hopefully this one will be able to compete with the Europeans, Germans and Japs

3800 pounds. It's not as much of a pig as the Challenger, but it's still a pig.

Ya know I've got a theory on that Deebs. Rated at 425hp, the SS has exactly the same power number as my '08 Vette. Since the Vette has to remain Numero Uno in the Chevy sports car realm, I'm guessing the porkage was at least partially planned to insure the SS is slower than the much higher priced product. The power:weight has to remain inferior. Also, probably cheaper to make a heavier car, right? Still Camaro guys can brag about the number.

Hard to evaluate the quality of "leather" (it's all actually Alacantra now) and grade of plastics from the vid, but I agree it definitely looks like an improvement. I dont see any M3 drivers getting lured away though.

I think Lancia were the first to use Alcantara, in the 1950s, it was a durable and high quality synthetic suede.

I like!

p3, i think you have pissed me off once too often today.

Nice.

I saw my first glance at a 2010 Mustang and Camaro. They both look really good. I drive an 07 GT mustang, and the new ones are an overall improvement in everyway. Wait until you see oe in person. Pitcures don't do them justice. No more cruddy plastic interior either.

Hold on to your horses, the 2011 mustang is getting an engine transplant. It will put the camaro down.

Based on the specs released thus far it looks like the Mustang GT's power to weight ratio will be slightly better than the SS. Gearing notwithstanding, looks like it will be close enough to be a matter of driving skills, assuming same tranny types.

You trading your Vette for the new Camaro?

Pre-op or post-op?

I bet the Coyote 5.0 weighs atleast 50 more pounds than the current 4.6L 3V.

I was asking about Tranny types...

No word. I asume the 5sp manual and 5sp automatics will reamin as is with possibly upgraded clutches and Tq converters.

The 2010 Shelby got a very nice clutch upgrade from the previous model, as well as suspension improvements that were desperately needed.

lol, I was just repeating what leno said in the clip..pwned!

I might add my father is one of them. Wonder if they'll be delivered before Christmas.

hopefully, bro. BUNCHA people are pissed off about it. all those preorder folks still waiting on their cars, and GM has been clogging up production by pumping out plain-jane vanilla models to ship to dealers to sit on showroom floors. some early preorder customers got theirs already, but what the hell, you would think GM would fill all orders first before doing that. dunno how the car ordering thing works, just know there are alot of unhappy customers still waiting on their camaros, meanwhile they see billy joe jim bob driving one down the street that he DIDN'T have to preorder. i'd be pissed, too....

oh wow had no idea that was or is expected to happen. Yeah that's bullshit. As long as he doesn't see an SS on the road that someone bought off the lot I don't think he'll hit the roof though.

it is happening right now. my step-dad works for a chevy dealer and has several preorder customers still waiting, even though the lot has received, and already sold, 2 camaros. pretty sure 1 was an SS, too. he says dudes goin' berserk, wanting to cancel their orders and stuff. i would suggest your dad call his dealer to see what's up with his.

Stick a Procharger or STS turbo (with some fitting changes), 3.73-4.10's in the rear-end, high stall torque converter and you got a screamer

Still not a fan of how heavy American cars have gotten - this is a big deal for cornering, breaking and acceleration. Luckily horsepower is cheap for Americans. Germans are fanatics about weight, better engineering goes into their cars.

Interiors are where americans have always cheaped out on interiors (well in the past couple decades). Parts wise most american cars are far cheaper than japanese counterparts. But by the time an American Car is built and and a Japanese car is built - the japenese car is far cheaper. Their processes are more refined, and they dont have to pay unskilled labor way too much money.

Whooooa that is bullshit. I'll tell him to alright. Thanks.

oh yeah, and because of the demand, they were sold higher than the sticker price, too. kinda like when the dodge vipers first came out. i really hope that's not the reason GM is doing this. as f'ed up as GM's situation is right now, you'd think the last thing they'd want to do is piss off the few customers they have left, but that's corporate thinking at it's best....

American cars have been heavy. Remember the early 80's Vettes were essentially 2 tons.

Domestic can make light cars, it just doesn't happen often. My Corvette is ~500 pounds lighter than this new Camaro SS. For a big car, it feels nimble. I think it's just the market to which they are catering. The old skool muscle car fans don't care if the cars are fat, and since I expect it's ultimately cheaper not to worry much about weight savings, they don't. Yeah the interiors used to be absolutely frightful. My father's first Vette was a '90 I believe. Holy shit what a pathetic cheeseball interior. Cheap shiny vinyl looking seats, Chevy Cavalier looking plastics everywhere.

Yeah he knew he was getting gouged, but expected to get something in return you know, namely a very early SS.

are they still putting those cheesy 10-bolt rear ends in these things?

LOL...you know that actually occured to me as well.

to me, jay leno has always had that "i'm a liar" face. i did think it seemed kinda like he went out of his way to mention that it wasn't his in the video. kinda outta place. almost as if GM said "you can have this, just don't let anyone know. we just skipped a shitload of people to give this to you." hmmmm....

Who gives a crap if it is his or it isn;t?

He's a VIP customer so he can get whatever he wants as fast as possible.

They should only be happy about pleasing an exclusive customer. Do you think a high-profile customer getting his car first is going to drive GM into the ground by upsetting the public?

No, it won't.
