1) I'm wondering, are protein powders and bars really necessary? I've heard that more is not necessarily better, since you just pee out unused protein anyway.
After a workout I usually have a sandwich with about 30g of various kinds of deli meat on it, and I'll often also have a can of sardines or something like that, too. Is that enough? I don't tend to like drinking supplements, and they are very expensive.
2) Also, I've heard that you have about an hour after a workout to get some protein into your muscles while they're really receptive to it. So, if I'm in the gym for 2 hours, and run for the first half hour, do chest and core for the second half hour, shoulders and core for the third, then to the showers, it's more than an hour since I've done chest. So, does that mean that by that time it won't get full benefit of the protein?
