12 year old kills baby

Who? 12 year old
What? Kills a toddler (17 months old)
How? Beating it's head in with a baseball bat.
Why? Because the toddler was crying and distracting him from watching cartoons.

You think this kid is black? I do. They didn't what race he was but the newspaper stated they could publish his mother's name because she and child had different last names. <-- convinced me with that.

Sometimes the only thing that surprises me about stories like this is that they still kinda surprise me.

99% chance of a darkey. Why the Hell would you leave a 12 year in charge of 17 month old? Mommy was trying to get laid I bet. I shouldn't say trying, I'm sure she was.

Proud single mother.

hopefully the parents or guardian that left a 12 year old to babysit will be brought up on at least manslaughter charges if not murder also

12 year olds have been babysitters since I can remember.

It's not the age - it's that particular child.

Is the dead toddler a sibling to the killer?

And yes, I think the child should be held legally accountable and punished as an adult.

Baby sitters for older kids which still isn't the best idea but 17 months to young for a 12 year old to be watching. Your talking a nonwalking, diaper crapping, can't speak or feed it's self. It can be trying for an adult.

If a 12 year old is still watching cartoons, he needs a babysitter, not to be one.

In this day and age of wrapping children in this protective bubble so they don't get hurt is the reason why I disagree with "most" children possessing the intelligence and responsibility to care for a toddler.

When we were in Africa, there were 6 year olds herding goats so I definitely know that a child "could" care for a toddler but not in our society where children are treated like they are still infants

If a 12 year old (assuming he is not mentally challenged or ill) does not know that beating a toddle to death with a bat isn't the best solution to quiet a child then he need not continue to grow up in the same environment that he is in.

Or after hearing the sound of a skull crush with a thud not sickening enough to make him puke and gag....there is something wrong with him

Even if you choose to blame the parent that left a 12 year old in charge for what happened it doesn't change the fact that this 12 year old beat the toddler to death to get it to shut up.

I'm sorry but it's still my opinion that this child needs to be institutionalize to check his mental health and punished for the crime he committed even if the parent is held negligent.

I definitely agree with ya. I wasn't trying to pawn the responsibilities of the crime off on the parents. I wholly agree that the kid should be brought up on charges. I just hope that the parents/guardian are ALSO brought up on the same charges.

Agree. For a 12 year old to commit such a heinous act goes out of the scope of his ability to grasp the right and wrong of the whole situation. I cant imagine that this kid can comprehend the severity of his actions, or is operating totally in reality.

Where is Sugarlicious at to tell us it is a black thang and we just wouldn't understand it?

Oh the 12 year old is evil and should be put away but it's not really 100% the childs fault to have been put in charge of a 17 month old. The article didn't say for long I don't think? Maybe the kid was watching the baby for like 12 hours, that wouldn't help matters.

And maybe they should charge who the bat belonged to as well.

So what you're saying is - when your mother or guardian leaves you to watch a baby (in bad judgement) it's ok to kill a baby and quite possibly your sibling when it cries too damn long.

The article leaves out an enormous amount of detail - the very amount of detail that doesn't make your opinion fly either when you're grasping at the what ifs to make your point.

What we do know is the 12 year old beat the toddler to death with a bat.

Next thing you'll tell me that one of his friend may have come of over and peer pressured him into doing it just to see what might happen.

When I was 12 I was left alone to babysit a newborn and one year old (My little bro and sis) every day. I can say with all certainty that I was not ready for that sort of responsibility.

However, I never beat them up. :worried:

Poor, poor baby.

Lionel Tate would have at least bought the baby a pizza before taking her long and deep....

Why do Florida trailer parks get all the fun action?

great post.
My friend adopted a chinese child, when she got went to pick up the child, she was 3 and doing dishes.
I was making my bed and cleaning my house at 8 yrs old. There are kids today at 12 that have no idea how to make toast

In this case, this little boy is just evil

Im gonna jump in a time machine, go back 2 years, and call this thread racist.

I was the same way, I still remember being afraid of the basement and the big creepy laundry sink in the basement when my mother informed me I would be doing my own laundry from then on.

I also never had a babysitter my parents either took me with them or left me at home alone with a strict list of rules they taught me I never dared to break.

I agree - the boy is just not right in the head.

Oh horseshit.

The little ass picked up a bat, and beat a baby to death for crying because it interferred with his watching cartoons. He understood the bat shut the baby up.
If he doesn't comprehend the consequences now, he will when they strap the little devil to the chair and attach the power cord.
12 is 6th or 7th grade. He understood.

I don't understand why he didn't smother the infant to shut it up. The method used is the part I'm unable to grasp, I mean, bludgeoning with a bat?

Fla. Boy, 12, Accused of Killing Toddler

By MATT SEDENSKY – 1 day ago

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors are reviewing whether a 12-year-old boy should be charged as an adult after police accused him of fatally beating his toddler cousin with a baseball bat for interrupting a cartoon show.

The boy, whose name was not released, was being held in juvenile custody in the death of 17-month-old Shaloh Joseph, who police said enraged the suspect by crying while he watched television.

The case has powerful similarities to that of Lionel Tate, another 12-year-old, whose killing of a playmate convulsed the legal system in the same county and set off a debate over Florida's tough juvenile laws.

Tate was accused in the 1999 murder of a 6-year-old girl. He was convicted as an adult and was believed to have been the youngest person ever sentenced to life in prison in the U.S.

Assistant State Attorney Maria Schneider, who is prosecuting the case, said it was impossible not to think of the Tate case, but insisted the little girl's killing would be viewed independently.

"Every case has to be viewed on its own merits. Obviously we know what happened with Lionel's case. How could you not?" she said. "Is it ultimately going to affect what happens in this case? Of course not."

The boy's public defenders said the case belonged in the juvenile system.

"The juvenile justice system is in place for a reason, and juvenile sanctions exist for a reason," said Sandy Perlman, one of the boy's lawyers.

The attack happened Friday afternoon, police said, when the suspect was left in charge of his second cousin at the cousin's home. The boy was watching a cartoon — detectives aren't sure which one — when the baby started crying.

"He became enraged she was interrupting the television," said Lt. Mike Cochran. "It's really sort of surreal."

The boy grabbed a wooden baseball bat, police said, and hit the girl multiple times. She was pronounced dead later and was found to have suffered several skull fractures.

In a chaotic 911 tape released Monday, the boy and an adult who police said is the child's uncle, ask for paramedics while yelling is heard in the background.

"I gave her a shower. I put warm water and then I found her eyes closed," the boy said of his cousin. "And then I gave her another shower and now she vomited," he said.

He never mentions hitting the girl.

"That was a completely fabricated story," Cochran said. "It was almost as if, on the fly, he was trying to justify what happened."

The young suspect is a seventh-grader who stands 4-foot-11 and weighs just 90 pounds. Another attorney, Gordon Weekes, said he wears braces and is very close to his family.

Police say he confessed.

"He's trying to hold himself together," Weekes said.

The suspect in this case had no prior offenses, according to police, and a Department of Children & Families spokeswoman said that agency had not been involved with either the victim or the suspect.

A man who answered the door at the home where the beating allegedly took place said no one wished to comment. A man at an address listed under the name of the boy's mother refused to comment.

Police said another child, a 10-year-old, was also left in the boy's care along with the baby, though police have not identified that child's relationship to the victim or suspect. Cochran said parents of both the suspect and the victim were working at the time.

Attorneys for both the prosecution and defense said they were looking into the level of supervision given the suspect. But Schneider said the fact that a 12-year-old was left in charge of two younger children did not sound any immediate alarm.

"There are other households where, yes, a 12-year-old is considered responsible enough to babysit a 17-month-old," she said. "I don't think you can just say on its face that is so unreasonable."

The suspect was ordered held Sunday for at least 21 days.

The case is eerily similar to that of Tate, who was held responsible for beating and stomping to death 6-year-old Tiffany Eunick. Tate's lawyers initially claimed he killed the girl while imitating pro-wrestling moves.

An appeals court overturned his first-degree murder conviction in 2004 after determining it wasn't clear whether Tate understood the charges against him. He was freed from prison under a deal in which he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, but violated his probation and was handed a 30-year sentence.

Ken Padowitz, the prosecutor in Tate's murder case, empathized with attorneys weighing this case, saying they are "caught between a rock and a hard place" similar to what he experienced.

"We found ourselves in a situation of going to a juvenile system that was too lenient and going to the grand jury and risking a first-degree murder charge, which was too harsh."

Why do you assume violence has to be learned?

Environment or genetics, nature or nurture? Even the wildlife animals rear and "teach" their offspring the tools to survive. Look at predators that have been brought up in a sanitised environment such as a zoo, all but useless at hunting and fending for themselves. Anyway, slight digression, but my current stance would be the child was reared in a violent environment to demonstrate such behaviour.

I don't. That is a cop out for the adults who are setting examples in this country.

Hell, adults live in a fantasy world and suddenly we are surprised when kids can't deal with reality. It is really kind of amusing except for being so sad.

I blame adults. Wonder how many times the kid was screamed at or hit for interrupting an adult in the family who wanted to watch tv?

ummm, not really! A 12 yr old's parents are probably in their 30's and/or 40's. We all know technology!

Holy Shit - you were right.

Oh and so was I :)

Neighbors said the boy didn't play much with other children.

Gladys Harris, who lives down the street, said he didn't seem to mix well with the other kids on the block.

He never said ''hello,'' to people as he walked by.

''He seemed like a regular kid,'' Harris said. ``With a mean streak.''

As a side note: My Godson is 4 and he has a mean streak that I fear will become a problem in the next 1-3 years as his parents are way too lenient with his behavior. I watched him take a cowboy lasso/whip and whip his nanny in the face hitting her between her eye and cheek while having a friend over for play date.

His punishment?

To give the nanny the whip and say I'm sorry.

He didn't even look at at her to apologize he just said sorry and walked off.

His mother did nothing.

At least end the play date and put the kid in his room.

I would have punished that kid that he would not dare think of doing such a thing again without having to deal with my wrath.

I think most behavior is learned but I also think like some 4 legged animals some kids are just wired wrong - they could come from the best family and still be fucked in the head.

No accountability or punishment anymore. Lawsuits breathing down the accusers' throats. Now, what era produced better citizens, that of punishment that fits the crime, or no punishment at all?

And idiots still have the nerve to ask why society's going to hell. This is a big piece of the pie right here.

BS by the time I was 12 I own a rifle and knew damn well what it could do. By 14 I was hunting and killing small animals and birds. At 16 I was shooting large animals dead. You could say I could have no knowledge of right and wrong because I was trained to hunt. Maybe not 12 but by 14 I saw real live stuff that is far beyond video games.

Ok so BS, what's your point?
In your case, you were raised to be violent killer. Killing animals in the wild with guns is very manly, I must say.
It's called a sport right? It's a sport when you're alone with the animal and it can defend itself.
Didn't you hear, we kill enough animals and you can go into any grocery store and buy their carcasses there.
To be a hunter, one has to have some evil in them.
To me, killing a baby with a bat or killing a deer with a gun is the same thing.

Only if you don't eat the deer.
I'm an animal lover, but killing for food is what omnivores do. It's only wrong if you torment the animal, or don't harvest the animal.

The mother should be shot..Obviously he picked it up from somewhere was daddy hitting mommy too much when she wouldnt shut up?
Makes you wonder
