12-year-old begins medical school

I often read stories like this and wonder if the child profiled will be the one to find a cure for cancer, aids, etc.

Amazing story! Amazing kid too!

It does pull at my heart strings that he may be missing out on some "childish fun" during his quest for knowlegde!

Pretty sad he lost out on his childhood just to get rushed into the daily grind sooner than usual.. Poor kid. But o well, if he's happy then....Sad thing is, he may not even realize if he's happy or not till he's older and looks back on his life.

I've been following this kids story for a while now

At first I thought the same "poor kid" but after reading several stories about him it is apperant (sp) that he enjoys learning and was bored with kid stuff

nothing sad about it realy

lets just hope he doesn't fuck up like many of the other child prodigies. For every john stewart mill there are multiple william Sidis's.

supposedly the current america smartest man is a part time bouncer who is working on an astrophysics book.

Here is a quote from Sho when he was 10 yrs old:

Sho says his mother once told him the story of another child prodigy whose IQ registered 220. As the child grew into a man, he did nothing with his gift and was never heard from again.

But Sho is determined to not let that happen to him. "I have a goal," he says. "And I think the worst thing to do in life is fall short."

"I don't really like to think of myself as a genius. I'm, I'm gifted. I got my gifts from God, and I got some more than other people, so...I think I'd better not waste it."

sounds like he's way ahead of you bro, lol

I was going to do that, but just before I started they released the first Nintendo Entertainment System. I think it's obviously that I made the right decision.

Its sad things like this really.
Sho is going to go through the same emotional movements any teen is going through and hes going to burn that 200+ IQ brain of his disecting his own mind.

I also cant help to be scared of people like this in a way. Genious people have a far higher accurrance of psychosis... and obviously a far higher efficiency in acting on that psychosis.

Its a positive thought sho may use his thinking ability to solve great problems for people, but this may be simplistic thinking, of course such a project, like the mentioned cancer research, is going to be a project with scores of people working on it finding a clue or link to a solution. One mind like Sho wont make a dramatic difference. Most likely the finder of the cure for cancer or aids is going to be a doctor who got lucky, not a doctor with a rediculously high IQ.

Being a spectacle wearing asian sure does fit the stereotype. They should give him lenses or something its almost too typical

yeah i think that was william james Sidis she was referring too. He was fluent in almost every language known and passed Harvards anatomy medical exam when he was 7. He also discovered black holes 10+ years before anyone else did. However nobody cared and he spent most of his adult life working menial jobs and writing history books on indians & train car transfer manuals. i think he developed schizophrenia too, he had many of the symptoms.

I personally see no point in prodigies. Just because someone can do something at 8 that someone else can do at 24 doesn't matter. At the end of the day the same thing gets accomplished.

That's dumb. I had one in High school, Eric Nguyen. The guy was pissed cause he ended up with a 99% average. He was only 12 years old, while we were 16 yr old.

9 years later ? He's wearing kneepads in Bordeaux' prison for drug smuggling....
