05' GSXR 1000 Dyno'd at 165hp, I think I need One.

No way, no how. The Yamaha front end is the best looking front end, and they are the only company to come out with an undertail exhaust (stock) that doesn't look ridiculous, such as the Honda. The new gixxer tail is sweet, but I still hate the tail lights as I do the R1. The 2002 and 2003 tail light is still the best looking tail on the street. The gixxer front end is still gay, and even more so now with the turn signals on the mirrors.....hello, this is 2005, ever heard of LEDs? And how about being a little less....Out There, how about hiding them a little more? It is a better idea than Yamaha's mini football sized blinkers, but discreet would be nice. And you are right about one thing....who in the world thought up the idea for that pipe, and more importantly why?

See curling? There's a huge disparity between those numbers. You posted a thread saying 165hp, and that's gotta be a form of race fuel. The next numbers down are 160hp on 93 octane, which is probably what I'd run in the bike. That second set of numbers comes from someone who says that they saw it on the dyno, whereas the 3rd set that I posted comes from someone who owns a shop and physically had the bike on the dyno, as well as the owner of the bike who was there. I'm leaning heavily towards the 148hp version of the story myself.

As Wolfpack charlie said, hp and tq numbers don't mean shit in real world riding. There is so much truth in that. I followed an R1, GSXR1K, and a ZX9R for a hilly twisty backroad ride. They pissed me off in every turn because they slowed down so damn much. The first few turns I figured they were maybe warming up their tires, but after a few miles, I realized that I either had to pull over on the shoulder and wait 5 minutes to get some distance between me and them or just stick it out. I ended up just sticking it out, and I know the third bike back, if he was checking his mirrors, must've been shitting himself coming into every turn thinking I was going to run clear up his ass.

I gotta get back on the road and get back to the skill level I was at before. Yeah, I'm pretty confident that I could take liter bikes on backroads if it wasn't for straightaways. Even still, I usually try to ride a ta constant speed, maybe hitting 90 on the straights and backing off for turns early. It's much nicer that way. No worries about going into a tank slapper when you should be setting up for a turn, just kick it over, roll on the throttle, and get as low as you can. Save the excessive straightaway speeds and heavy braking for the track.

the HP is really no concern for me....my bike has more than i'll ever use...my 954RR had more than i ever used....coming out of a fast sweeper in 4th and hitting the throttle hard would loft the front end...i posted some of the 1/4 mi specs just for fun....the Kawai is the monster of the big 4...but IMO unless you are of pro ability you will not get your moneys worth...i just have fun with all my friends and it gives me something to look forward to on the weekends...ive been riding since i was 9yrs old...its something that gets inside you-in your blood- and never goes away...those of us who ride know what im talking about...its a great sport where you get to meet people and go ride with them, you get to constantly improve your abilities and when im done, im exhausted from the rush all day long...thats what its all about.

All this talk about horse power means absolutely nothing without the ability to ride the bike to it's potential, which I would say 95% of the riders on the street do not posess. Sure you feel like a bad ass smokin some fool off the line or from a roll on, but you feel and look like a moron when some dude whips past you in the corner on a 600. I aint flamin anyone here, just seems to me that EVERYONE who rides gets caught up in the numbers....then some go out and buy a bike they can't handle, which causes a lot of problems for those who can handle their own bikes. I aint sayin I'm an awesome rider either, 'cause I can't ride the twisties worth shit, I'm more of the 3rd gear highway wheelie type, which also creates a lot of problems for riders.....so fuck it, buy whatever is fastest!!

I agree..and if my memory serves me correctly doesn't the R1 top at 190?

Unless they've changed things around, all Jap import bikes are being limited to 186mph in stock trim.

Aprilias are limited to the 136mph area, but that was emmissions crap. Swiss emmissions are tougher than US. Aprilia didn't want to make 3 models (euro, swiss, and US), so they just set the black box up with a different injection/ignition map. Snip one wire on the harness and it goes back to euro spec.

Came across a guy that had a Mille before the wire snip. Didn't matter if he was in 5th or 6th gear, he couldn't get above 136-137mph.

It all comes down to what style bike you like and what fits you best. Some people are more comfortable on one as opposed to the other. The difference in power is practically non-existant. I seriously doubt 95% of the riders out there will notice an 8hp difference. The only thing anyone would notice is a difference in tq and hp peaks and trans gearing.

Man, I was looking at some sportbike sites yesterday and the gsxr 1000 is ranked #1 in 05 for hp. I mean it is up there with the 1300 busa. But the weight/hp ratio is just insane. I wonder how it wheelies, since they balanced the weight out more for the track? I have heard some places are selling them for about 9800(which is a 1000 and change cheaper than MSRP) Guess I need to start hunting that deal. I really want a red and black one but I heard they only have yellow/black, charcoal/black and blue/white. I guess the blue and white would be the best for letting cages notice ya. But the salesman in houston must have been mistaken because he they make a red/black.

I sat on one in the suzuki tent in daytona it was awesome. The only thing I don't understand is they say they have a "slipper" clutch what the heck does that mean? I have always heard it feels like a 600 do to the redesigning. Think it is time to sell the cruiser.
A 'Slipper Clutch' lets you change down without locking up the rear wheel!Good idea in the wet! :)
