    Rippetoe's New Book

Big fan of Rip's first two offerings in Starting Strength and Practical Programming, and am pretty sure I have read somewhere that he is now working on a new book. Does anyone have information regarding a new Rippetoe book? TIA

    Benefits of recovery week?

Consistent lurker but infrequent poster here, and thanks to this website discovered Rippetoes 3 x 5 program, which I am currently adhering to. My strength gains have been better than my size gains but that is partially my fault as I haven't been eating enough. Weight progress (Sets accross...

    Starting Strength

You are correct. I ordered Practical Programming about a week, so hopefully it gets here pretty soon. I'm hanging out for a good read.

    Bill Starr Question

Not meaning to hijack this thread or anything, but I am currently adhering to the Mark Rippetoe (3 x 5 starting strength program) and am seeing some good strength gains. Is the program listed above a good segway into the Bill Starr intermediate 5 x 5 program? Or should I go straight ahead and...

Encountered early problems with 3 x 5 program

Okay, I will drop some of the workout sets. Makes sense, and definitely worth a shot. I also thought of that, as in squats are the most important part of the program and I have had to skimp over them due to injury and lack of equipment.

Encountered early problems with 3 x 5 program

The week 1 B/B bench press started @ 62.5kg, whilst the pendlay rows started @ 50kg. From there I have increased the weight by 2.5kg at each workout, as they are my smallest plates at the moment. I am waiting for my microplates to be shipped. I'd lean to the thought that I started a bit too...

Encountered early problems with 3 x 5 program

I am heading towards the end of the third week in the starting strength program, and have come across some early problems especially regarding the bench press and the pendlay rows. My last two workouts are as follows: ~ Please note that the low squat figure is due to a groin compaint, and I...

    Mercere's 3x5...The quest for a decent Squat

Hey mercere, Just checking in to see how you are going? I am in the 2nd week of my 3 x 5 program, and all is going well, which it should be in these early stages. Just a quick question, why have you changed from the 'sets across' method (3 sets at set weight), to a ramping method? Is it...

    Mercere's 3x5...The quest for a decent Squat

Thats the best approach to take, as in slow but steady gains. Ensures your weight gain, is predominantly muscle as opposed to consuming everything in sight and putting on too much fat. I've read somewhere that the body can add between 0.2-0.3kg of muscle per week, and that's a maximal figure...

    Mercere's 3x5...The quest for a decent Squat

Great job on the progress. Just a question to all the guru's (mercere, anotherbutterss etc). I am about to start my own 3 x 5 run, and am unsure if I need to partake in any form of fitness testing? Eg: 1RM or 5RM testing for the staple lifts? Do you get your 5RM's prior to the commencement...
