that was quick
I downloaded it the other day and I love it. Im using a dell mini laptop so it doesnt have all the bells and whistles as far as speed and such and windows 7 is running smooth as anything. you dont need a flash drive to install. i downloaded it to my hard drive and installed it from there. but keep in mind it wouldnt let me upgrade from XP i had to clean install. for some reason it popped up during the install i couldnt upgrade. i didnt care for doing the clean install since i just bought this laptop and didnt care cause i didnt have any files on it i needed to back up or not want to lose. make sure you back up any files you dont want to lose before installing windows 7.

4 gig minimum flash drive Chris
Install Windows 7 From USB Drive/Pen Drive
also at least 20 gbs of free space to install (min they say is 18)
are you doing a clean install or dual booting?
you downloaded to an external hard drive I am assuming
you can't download and install it directly from microsoft on to your HD inside you computer. If you did, that is the first I've heard
it needs to be done with either
1)iso burnt disc
2)USB flash
3) external HD
