Just like all the retard investors who thought women's basketball would blow the roof off women's sports - the galaxy finally admits, it fucked up big time with Beckham. They can't even get rid of the guy to make up for the losses on his shirts! hahahaha.

Just like the loser companies that ponied up $20M contracts with $9m signing bonuses for Phelps - and now embarassed and out millions. Waiting until he wins more gold medals, which is years away.

Lesson learned? If you have money - stay away from media-hyped fads.

the players in the MLS are garbage. of course beckham wants to play in europe

why did they ever think this would work?

IT would take a mass migration of talent to make the MLS even semi interesting, and that would never happen considering some of the clubs in europe have infinite piles of money and their god like following
 
LMAO at a $10 to $15 million transfer fee. There are top players in England in their prime going for that.

it was a gamble that was premature...
soccer, imo, is on the brink of popping here and
will eventually...esp with the latinos moving here in droves.
he played for a cali team, it def coulda worked but didn't.
eventually it will it will get a toe hold professionaly here...high school and college soccer is already firmly established and thriving

Yeah but MEDIA HYPE is how you attract investors to fork out millions and lose it all.

Same thing happened during dot-com's and housing. Stupid people with money are such easy game once u got the media on your side too (load up cnn articles of 'the beckhams are coming!, posh spice announcing new reality show!, soccer could finally make it big here, world's biggest soccer star in la!') blah blah blah.

Say no to hype! kids.

No kidding. If i was Phelps agent, and after he won 8 gold medals - I announced an open call for EF people to invest minimum $50,000 in future earnings from promotions, marketing, ancillaries, etc. - everyone would jump on it ("Phelps could be worth $100 million!, Phelps could be a movie star, biggest athlete in history!").

And after the bong incident - all you niave sheep would be crying and pleading for your money back. ha ha! yeah right!

People in masses are very gullible. Ask any Nigerian :)

BTW, Beckham has hardly been a financial flop. His annual base salary is just $5.5 million. The rest of that inflated $250 million number is based on marketing opportunites, tv deals, camps, jersey sales, etc. They have probably profited from him so far. I still think soccer is a dead end sport.
