Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton is fighting a World Junior Welterweight Championship bout against New York’s Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 22nd. This plans to be a clash between the two best 140-pound fighters in the world and one of the most intriguing and exciting fights of 2008.

won 25 (KO 5) + lost 1 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 26
rounds boxed 185 : KO% 19.23
Ricky Hatton
won 44 (KO 31) + lost 1 (KO 1) + drawn 0 = 45
rounds boxed 263 : KO% 68.89
My take on the fight:
Hatton has had a problem with taller fighters that have speed, power and a better reach. Hatton in the later rounds has had horrible defense and walks into punches. In this last fight with Lazcano, Hatton got hammered in the 10th, and due questionable actions by the ref, was permitted to recover, otherwise he was close to being KOed.
Malignaggi's only loss came from Cotto - and Malignaggi went the distance. He stood toe-to-toe with Cotto, who is a very good power puncher but lost on the cards by a large margin. Malignaggi has speed and a decent reach of 70" (compared to Hatton's 65") which places him in a good position to exploit Hatton's defensive weaknesses. Conversely, Malignaggi does not have that much power though and if this goes the distance, IMO Hatton will outbox him. Malignaggi is young and he may have learned from his loss with Cotto, if so this could be a decent match-up.
This is Hatton's fight to lose.
My prediction: Hatton by decision.
