In the True Spirit of the Season, Karma Blessings to All

It's good "spirited" fun to me (pun). I mean, really, eventhough I'm a big ol' Jesus lover what good does it do to devalue you, your holiday, your tradition, :whatever: ?

I learned a long time ago that narrow mindedness will get you nowhere in this world. Promise not to be offended when I send you a Merry Christmas K note! :lmao:
you know, I'm a christian, too, and i think most of what Jesus thought and did got lost with us. He was all about embracing others. You have a good attitude.

To put a modern type spin to expand upon what you stated......i thought this was a very profund dialogue:

Rufus: He still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the shit that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.
Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?
Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant.

Naaa, no devaluation. Because I see it still impacts people, even if the ways are more subtle. People have more intense dreams or dream about those who have crossed over, they may find themselves thinking about getting together with folks they haven't seen in a while or finding a reason to visit a cemetery. They carve pumpkins and put out luminary without knowing the lights are to guide the lost souls or the spooky faces were meant to frighten off unwanted spirits. They bob for apples and give out candy without knowing that in a small way they are tapping into a traditions and pieces of imagery and ritual that goes back not just hundreds but thousands of years.

Jesus himself was even JUDGED for hanging with Zaccheus, the tax collector, and that skanky ho at the well. People were like "OMG! Jesus! What are you doing" LOL!

He was ALL about hanging out wiht and getting to know people who were different from him! He didn't just camp out with his disciples all the time.

Ok, Sunday School's over folks. Move along. :verygood:

WOW! I had no idea about those traditions. Our Christian preschool even hosted a "Daddy and Me" Pumpkin carving night! It was at the church and so much fun for everyone but no lesson about frightening off unwanted spirtis. Actually, that sounds more like some of my DH's families beliefs! They are Buddists and are all about that kidna stuff just no jack o lanters! Interesting.

+1

And here is an AWESOME song aptly named, "The Christians & The Pagans"

You should include a pronunciation key for Samhain, mija, since everyone is going to be reading it incorrectly. :jack2:
The way MY coven pronounces it is "Sow-ain."

Frigging Celts, most tongue twistingly unpronouncable language there ever was. I have a friend who says that's the reason they could never become a force to be reckoned with, their language was too complicated.

Dogma was an AWESOME movie, it brought up some remarkably astute observations.
