so i'm freezing

^^^^ what Javaguvu said

my outside temp is below 35
and it's toasty in my house

new roof
ridge vent
finished basement
replacement windows
all add up to keepin my thermostat at 63-65 tops through winter
and my house is warmer than a mofo

natural gas too

I imagine your house older and charming stilleto
explain your situation
oil heat?
wooden windows
poor insulation?
because with the cold that came here in the northeast, somethin might be wrong to have your house drop to 55 inside
even without heat running

hate to see your heating costs
and your food bill :)

i haven't turned the heat on yet and it's been around 40 degrees outside when I wake up. this is the first time the house got cold.

it's not an old house- built in 1980, new windows.
i am at a really high elevation though- it's much colder at my house than it is down in town, always.
My whole house is electric btw. every room is it's own zone. the good thing about that is i'm never over heating parts of the house that aren't being used (like the guest room).
