A question to the financial gurus on EF

If you are thinking buy-and-hold for 2+ years, there should be some good buys out there. I fall into the "terminally paranoid" category (thanks for the term JR!) so my picks would be too conservative.

I bet 75th would know some good mutual funds that make or distribute mid-range items. I'd stay away from the high end (i.e. boats) or pure commodities as well. Over then next few months, the market will be so volatile that you'd want to dollar-cost average (blend over time) your money into the mutual fund too. For every success story that someone has about buying at the *perfect* time, there are 10 stories about someone who bought and it went down from there. Leave timing the market to market movers with high tech trading tools -- the rest of us are just along for the ride.

I seem to be hearing two diff. opinions....completely opposite

One is America is doing so badly to the point that its getting closer and closer to a depression like recession

The other point is that it's not that bad...and America is doing just fine

I know friends that have businesses in the states and they are saying shit is going down the drain

which one do you support?

Its somewhere in between, but again if we do fall into a recession (or if we are in one now) it doesnt necessarily affect the value of the dollar.

Technically we aren't in one yet. But we will be soon.

Being "in the tank" doesn't fit the technical criteria for a recession. Things can be really bad and still not fit the formal definition.

wow thanks for all the info guys
appreciate it
I bought the gold 4 months ago btw
