NO wasn't on the northeast quadrant of Katrina. It very well may be on Gustav. If so, Gustav will be more destructive to NO proper. Plus the storm surges will be higher in Eastern LA. Instead of the major storm surge being in Gulfport east to Dauphin Island, it will be from Fort Morgan east to Pass Christian that will feel the brunt of the water damage. NO should hope for a more Eastward track than projected.
Believe me, you western Gulf people are amateurs when it comes to storm tracking. The worst storm surges and wind wall is on the NE quadrant. You'd rather have a storm pass just east of you than just west.
I'd like to see it make a hard left (like 90 degrees), plow mexico, and then have it's remains dump a shit ton of rain on las vegas......it probably wouldnt even be a thunderstorm by the time it made it to us....

That's because of shear that is expected to dissipate. But the higher TS activity in the SE quadrant has nothing to do with the storm surge. Storm surge is water piled up by the rotational winds.
