Did you know that ostracism evolved so as to remove burdensome members from the social group? Are you even aware enough to know what is happening here at EF? You have a fairly large group of people, the vast majority of whom have never met each other, who have collectively decided to ostracize you.

Apply some of that so-cherished reason and logic of yours. What are the chances of such a diverse group of people collectively misconstruing a situation and incorrectly ostracizing you? It's one of our more deeply-seated instincts, and dozens of people have elected to use this form of social banishment on you.

I completely agree.

It is encouraging when a community bonds together and says NO we will not tolerate certain behavior as acceptable and will shun you when no remorse or rehabilitation is shown. People only allow that stuff to flourish around them when they don't care about the community they're in and enjoy watching it crumble.

Shunning is a natural response that's not wise to ignore.

Sadly, the anonymity of web forums frees some to partake in some pretty egregious behavior. However, studies suggest that that the strongest inhibitor of online aggression isn't the lack of anonymity, but the act of maintaining eye contact.
