What's Behind The Record Heat? - Yahoo! News

Hard to argue against that, but how much is really caused by man vs earth's natural cycle? There have been a few other warming periods before mankind's rampant industrialization.

Global warming is so Bush era lol

Its all about poor people now rob, come on get with the times.

There have been natural cycles of warm and cold, but those cyles have been much more gradual. There are no natural cycles that have been so dramatic.

Also, natural cycles have scientific explanations. Even the cause of the ice ages has been explained scientifically: Milankovitch cycles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is no "natural" cause for the trends in climate observed today. And to flip it around, skeptics of man made global warming need to come up with an explanation of how a 35% increase in CO2 does not change the earth's temperature. There is no scientific model that fits with the skeptics view.

because they think it's just another engineering problem. They have plans for when all the trees die out, it's these huge wall fan looking things the size of 3 dallas cowboy stadiums they're gonna erect all around cities to do the jobs trees do. Its utterly absurd. We're heading for extinction and because of moore's law it's coming faster than you realize. Obviously if we all get handed breathing units we might technically be able to survive in the industrial farce world that's coming....but do we want to? Do i want to have to go to "air" cafe's every day to get a dose of the only clean oxygen i'm gonna get all day? the fuck kind of life is that?

that's a cop out bro. our per capita emissions are way higher and probably always will be at least somewhat higher. but yes we need their cooperation too. and everyone's cooperation. which was what was so great about the kyoto protocol, and why it's so shameful that we dropped out

And whatever happened with that BP spill? Isnt the gulf supposed to be a Dead Sea now?

ahh fack i just queud up that video after just getting done eating 5 minutes ago. I made it aboug 10 seconds. :barf:

broheem look at those video's and tell me that body of water is just fine. They were saying two years ago it's gonna take a couple generations before we see the true impact on the marine life and tada!! 3 generations later the mutations show up. It's disgusting. I got a little bit of acid just looking at that shit.

Get your PHD in Econ bro...

The skeptical enviromentalist...

The green religion is so popular in the developed nations because we have so little to worry about when it comes to health issues; The UN doesn't even list climate change as a top issue to address when it comes to human welfare.

Uh hmmm....bullshit.

The United Nations number 1 listed goal in its most recent 5 year action agenda is Sustainable Development.
Sustainable Development includes Addressing Global warming as a top priority, along with poverty reduction, improved medical access, and natural resource and energy conservation and planning.

Glen Beck is a good avatar for you Java. You lie as much as he does.

and that's where the debate ends...once you're willing to use the gun in the room to force your will on someone else it's over.

I disagree, recycling anything someone isn't willing to pay you for is pretty much bullshit. However, recycling government metrics exceeded all expectations...people went out of their way to not only seperate their garbage but also us etheir own time to drop it off at recycling centers.

im willing to use violence to prevent my property from being stolen. i guess the debate is over; time to legalize theft. thanks java

and when you "force" a company to meet an emissions cap, that isn't violence. give me a break dude.

do you understand that 2004 is not part of the year 2012 5 year action agenda?

I understand politics...

How has global warming accelerated since 2004 to make it a top action issue other than kleptocrats wanting more of my money?

From what I've read the satellite data, real world measurements, contradict the computer model hysteria over global warming.

As a rule of thumb, governments create threats to expand their power. The Cold War was a false threat and once that was ended global warming became the in vogue reason to steal money before Bin Laden and an unending "war on terror."

Now, if the largest and wealthiest government the planet has known can't educate a literate population after almost 150 years of experimentation with education then how are they going to engineer a climate? Hell, in industrialized areas of the colonies literacy rates were over 90% without compulsory education...working men like blacksmiths would hire boys to read to them as they worked...Adam Smith and Thomas Paine; In urban areas of Michigan literacy is in the 70th percentile.

The government can't even keep steroids out of prisons, the most controlled environment they created...I used to get all kinds of juice related questions.

Osama went on the wanted list in 1993...he was killed last year..that's some effictive government for you.

My point is simple, if the government is incompetent at everything it does then why do you assume it will be competent on global warming? Everything good has come from the private sector and everything the government runs sucks. I remember when the government ran telecommunications, you could have a black rotary phone or a cream rotary phone...I was also on a socialist party line and no innovations happened because they were forbidden.

Once telecommunications were no longer run by the government we got cordless phones, answering machines, voicemail and cell phones in a VERY short time.

Item number 3 of the top 10 from your article:

"03. Environmental Degradation is poisoning air, water, and land while also accelerating. Changes that took 10,000 years now take 3 years. It is not just Global Warming -- fresh water is vanishing, earth is toxifying. When an aquifer (dropping a meter a year) takes in salt water it is lost forever."

So what has changed since 2004? Not much. It was a top priority then, and is a top priority now.

It's the most intelligent, and carefully-planned, and successful fraud upon the Public in the history of the world.... I'd be laughing harder if I weren't paying all kinds of fees and taxes for the profit of the Global Warming racketeers in the Gov't.

Yep 10 of Millions of tons of Emissions and Man made chemicals dumped a year are 100% safe and its not worth even worrying about the future health of our kids and grandkids. :whatever:

If you don't believe in the FACT of global warming, do you believe in that cell phone in your pocket? Because that fucking little miracle is a lot harder to figure out for scientists than it is to figure out that climate is changing and warming and the reasons why. That's basic shit. Believing science isn't a choice like with religion. Science works. Look at your cell phone.

Charles knows that electronic theory is not Law. And cant be proven. But he still believes it.
But for some reason Climate change fact escapes him?

I dont get it?

i'm laughing that you decided to trust oil companies spending their record profits creating skepticism around climate science, over the climate scientists themselves who have reached almost complete consensus and have little to gain except for limited research funds

if climate scientists are lying, don't you think they could make a lot more money at this point working for oil companies to say there's no climate change?

Let's get one thing clear. There is no debate about climate change. The debate is a fabrication. It's one of the biggest lies on Fox News (which is saying a lot), but in the real world, its about as controversial as cholesterol being related to heart disease or the earth being round.

In 2004 Science Magazine looked at 928 published peer reviewed articles on climate change. of those, a whopping ZERO percent were articles opposing or offering evidence against the consensus position.

The Scientific Consensus on Climate Change

The IPCC postion paper (TAR) on the facts of global warming has been endorsed by the national science acadamies of every civilized country and every major institution in this country that specializes in climate science.
there is no debate. Next question?

there are parts of the food chain we can't eat anymore because they're so contaminated with heavy metals....it's mind numbing to think people beleive that another generation of Ipads is worth this. Once it's gone it's gone....I just want to be around long enough for the meat eaters to have to eat reconstituted fecal matter at McDonalds. I'm waiting for that marketing campaign like nothing else. When all the viable animals to eat are gone we're gonna eat shit burgers, it's already in the works....I can't wait to hear what they call it before people realize it's the reconstituted shit meat substitute.

Why stop at golbal warming? As a general population we obviously dont know whats best for ourselves, so let the government decide everything for me like which foods to eat, clothes to buy, car to drive, where to live, where to work. You would be included in that population as well just so you know, since you arent an Elite.

Of course you know whats best for yourself though right? Everyone would be under government control except the ones advocating the government control lol of course. Since they know whats best for everyone else.
Dont forget the inner city folk, obviously they dont know whats best for themselves as demonstrated by their crime rates, drug use, poverty, preg rates, welfare rates etc. The applications of this "If I were dictator" game are endless bor

Birth certificate... I believe that's what it they were talking about. There is so much surrounding that bC tho. Would be stupid to ignore it. And it's not cause hes black. It's cause everything about him is fake. Including everything he says. No one really know who he is.

The elite are just as fucked up bro. They used to interbreed so that they could keep the good genes within themselves. Hell the Rothschilds would marry within family to keep the money within the family, and so many other familues

Thats what happens when the media goes in the tank for a candidate with zero experience for the record, and doesnt properly "vet" him.

Well this thread just went into the toilet. I'd rather argue about whether the earth is flat.
Go argue with the Governor of the State of Hawaii about his birth certificate, since he, and the State government there, are A-OK with his birth certificate. (Since they are the ones who issued it. Duh) But before you do that, explain why you aren't in a deep investigation about George Bush's birth certificate. I don't remember any state governments issuing statements about Bushes authentic BC. I don't remember seeing any birth announcements about Bush in state newspapers. Yes, I think Bush is the fucking alien. I doubt if he's even from this planet.
Obama has the most scrutinized and verified birth credentials in the history of the world, and anything to the contrary is a complete fabrication.

I can't believe I wasted 2 minutes of my life to type that.

Nah they know.. They media has sold their soul like all those other mfs.. All
The media are owned by a handful of greedy corrupt corporations.

I don't know either. Should have just kept talking about global warming and how we have to pay our carbon taxes to al gore.

you are blowing climate policy way out of proportion. the government isn't telling you that you can't emit carbon. it is trying to make sure that high-emitting businesses reduce their GHGs, since they are contributing to climate change and profiting from it.

everyone benefits when emissions are curtailed, but we can't count on businesses to voluntarily do so when all they care about is maximizing profits. it's the same type of policy intervention that gave us catalytic converters on all our cars so that we aren't all choking on toxic exhaust fumes. pretty simple stuff, and definitely not fascist as you implied earlier

Sorry if all our totalitarian bells are going off here. I bet if I looked I could find Stalin quotes that are almost word for word, just sub in something else for GHG emissions.

Business without some regulation is never good. You have to look no further than slavery to see how that works. I just think there are some better solutions than the current cap and trade.

i agree. cap and trade doesn't really work for GHGs unless the whole world participates. otherwise you just end up with leakage and the GHGs are produced elsewhere, while hurting the economy of the entity implementing the cap.

i think fuel economy standards are still a good solution since they actually end up saving people money over the long run. I also like the renewable energy standard since you also see a lot of air quality co-benefits, plus it helps advance renewable energy technology which i think will also end up being a money-saver and a long-term global solution.

I believe in the scientific fact of global warming & cooling cycles... It's proven in the layers of rock. I also believe in the unmatchable talent in the imagination of Al Gore, et al, and in the gullibility of the tax-paying public. People love a cause, whether it's fake or real, and will do anything to divert worry away from real problems that we CAN fix with a great deal of pain and suffering, but must face some day soon. At least with the war on global warming, we know Mother Nature will win, so no guilt need be felt when we finally realize we're losing.

Rather than to bring the entire American public to a grinding halt by stopping oil drilling, and stopping the generating of coal-fired electric plants under the pretense of preventing global warming risks, making car paint that lasts 2 years to require repainting many times, let's use what technology we have, to retrofit our society to accommodate the coming changes. The way we're going with our heads buried, we'll suddenly realize too late, after we've spent all our resources on stopping global warming, when in fact it is happening regardless of mankind and our "carbon footprint" (what a cool term, LOL). Because I'm a nice guy, I'll refrain from laughing and yelling "Told 'ya so" to the Gore congregation from my home in the Republic of Texas, where global warming will be handled by acceptance and preparedness.

First, Al Gore has nothing to do with Global warming theory other than the fact that he is smart enough to understand it and communicate it. The evidence has been compiled for more than a hundred years by PhD scientists who study it every day. Its hard science, not Al Gore's or anyone else, imagination.

Second, natural warming and cooling cycles are not part of the man made global warming problem. It is proven; it is a fact, and no expert in the field denys it.

Third, you can't simply "prepare" for some of the predicted outcomes of continued warming. dead crops, dead forests, dead ocean, sea level covering major cities, etc. All this stuff doesn't happen tomorrow, but refusing to acknowledge that we have a responsibility to our planet and to our children is the ultimate irresponsibility.
I have no problem with contingency planning for environmental changes we will unfortunately be unable to avoid, but that has to be combined with an understanding of how we as humans impact this earth and doing what we can to keep it in balance. Nobody is talking about stopping oil drilling, but it only makes sense to talk about alternatives for a long term plan. Logical people have been talking about that for decades, long before Global warming was in the news.

Decreasing supplies of oil (yes it is limited), increased effect of emmisions, growing populations and demand for energy, Political instability that will be caused by demand for energy, food, water and space, etc.
A plan to "keep doing what we are doing" is not a plan, and we don't need the short sighted and the ignorant in this country making policy decisions so vitally important.

Republicans need to join the rest of the civilized world and quit acting like a bunch of ignorant bible thumping dopes. Let's talk about how to manage environmental concerns without killing economic growth. Let's drop the head in the sand science denial.

I will agree with this, what's done is done..I don't think we can undo it. We have so pervasively shat in every corner of this globe it ain't comin back even if the human race disappears from the face of the earth tommorrow. But to continue unsustainably sucking dry every last drop of resourse this planet can provide is utter madness. These kind of thought patterns only exist in the minds of the depraved. Are we parasites or are we a rational thinking species? It really does come down to that question. All parasites die off btw, once they've consumed their hosts.

Global warming ‘manageable’, says Exxon chief - FT.com

“As a species that’s why we’re all still here: we have spent our entire existence adapting. So we will adapt to this,” he said. “It’s an engineering problem, and it has engineering solutions.”

Republicans need to join the rest of the civilized world and quit acting like a bunch of ignorant bible thumping dopes. Let's talk about how to manage environmental concerns without killing economic growth. Let's drop the head in the sand science denial.

Why stop at golbal warming? As a general population we obviously dont know whats best for ourselves, so let the government decide everything for me like which foods to eat, clothes to buy, car to drive, where to live, where to work. You would be included in that population as well just so you know, since you arent an Elite.

True, but the difference is going out of one's way to learn more than what they've been spoon-fed in public schools. If this was more the norm maybe this shit wouldn't be happening in the first fucking place.

The elite are just as fucked up bro. They used to interbreed so that they could keep the good genes within themselves. Hell the Rothschilds would marry within family to keep the money within the family, and so many other familues

I wasn't really talking financial elite, because greed consumes them more often than not, and everyone suffers because of it. Elite to me in this case has more to do with a certain level of personal/social responsibility and guts than anything else.

What makes anyone assume any major problem can be solved by government?

The War on Drugs...

The War on Terrorissm

The War on everything else...

the clean air acts have saved probably hundreds of thousands of lives

Citation?

The common law dealt with pollution based on property rights as far back as the 18th century. If someone pollutes your shit then they pay damages or suffer an injunction. It was the progressive courts of the 19th Century that created the "common good" that allowed pollution.

and who/what would enforce that injuction java? Pollution is a byproduct of capitalism btw. Capitalism is about doing what you can, not what you should. Corruption is at the core of capitalism because in it's purest sense, it is the complete and total absence of "ANY" governing body whatsoever. Now on another planet somewhere with another species, things may be different. But here, for humans, capitalism is corruption at the most breathtaking of levels. It's a swinetrough, no more no less. Communism is really no different, just the same corruption wrapped up in a differnt style of wrapping paper.

How time appropriate....

How free markets will beat climate change...

ahhh, so free market capitalism...which was the cause of the rampant toxification of our entire atmosphere and ecosystem, is also now the solution? Didnt' a wise man once muse about beer the same way...it being the cause and the solution to all of life's problems...?

:lmao:

sorry java but this guys in fairy tale land, he doesn't get what's coming. He thinks "richer cities" are going to adapt better to climate change....he doesnt' get that if some of the worst prognosis come to pass, actually some of those poorer people who have been working outdoors their whole lives are going to fare the best. They're made of stouter stuff. Soft westies are gonna drop out. I'm sure you've read about Mao and what hed did to his people during the Great Leap, just imagine what would happen if you did that to average americans.

they aren't about personal property, they are about the ambient air quality in entire regions containing too many pollutants, and causing respiratory and cardiac complications and premature deaths as a result. The average person can't measure the quality of the air they breathe or who is polluting it, and even if they could, they could never get properly compensated for the premature deaths of themselves or loved ones. It is just isn't feasible for private citizens to clean the air through civil litigation. As a result, major polluters are regulated at the source and are forced to comply with emissions standards so that the cumulative pollution from all emitters doesn't exceed dangerous concentrations.

Do you watch TV? I can't go a day without seeing a commercial for a class action lawsuit where a law firm is looking for more people to join the class. Hell, I've gotten letters for at least six class action suits against Volkswagen for minor issues that caused zero deaths or injuries. Don't you think those lawyers won't form a class action lawsuit against polluters if it was allowed?

Not really, the concept of the "public good" where everyone must tolerate pollution is a government invention.

java you're stuck in the world of left/right, black/white, communism/capitalism. Pollution would be rampant in this country no matter what system of govt we employed. But if we want to get specific it's the crony pseudo capitalism we have in this country that is responsible for our environement. If somebody somewhere can make money from some process, even if it's dirty...they'll pay the right people. If there was no govt at all in this country they'd still do it because there's money to be made.
