Anyone have experience or know anything about painting concrete floors?

calveless wonder

My new loft has that gray industrial type concrete flooring. It doesn't have the glossy look though, so it doesn't look as nice as the rest of the apartment does.

i'm prolly just gonna paint it an entirely different color, but is it a huge pain in the ass to do?

Should i hire somebody to do it or is it something i can do myself?

You'll probably need to media blast it first so the paint will stick. There's special polyurethane paints for concrete. At work, we acid washed our concrete floors, then sprayed a protective clear-coat over them for the offices and rolled the P/U coating in the shop. I watched the whole process, but didn't help at all.

Here is the rear patio of my house a couple years ago. 1st coat of stain...

Planks pic looks like what we did in our offices. Again, I didn't help, but it didn't look to difficult to do.

hmm.... that might work.

i'd need to use an interior stainer but from what i'm seeing those seem pretty common

it's easy. Just go to any industrial concrete supply store and they'll have the stains. I think it runs around $40 a gallon and a gallon does like 800-1200 sg feet i think. Then they will also have these weed sprayer things meant to handle the acid. Get one of those. Then buy some acrylic sealer. That's what will give it the gloss (like a clear coat on a car)

Sweep the floor real good and mask off the walls. Put acid in sprayer and lightly spray the concrete. Let it dry...apply as many coats as you want to get the color you're looking for. (get it wet to see what it will look like w/the sealant on) once you have it where you want it apply the sealer.

Use a sprayer to apply the sealer too, don't use a roller.
