Recently rewatched the dark crystal and throughout the movie all I could think was....man, Jim Henson was one messed up dude. There was hardly a moment in that movie that didn't make my skin crawl.
The empty zombie eyed slaves, the noises the giant bug things made, the vulture like things that crumble when they die and punish losers of contests of power with mobbing them and stripping them naked, the old lady goblin thing from labyrinth ("don't you like your pretty dolls? Mmmmm???") who pops her eyes out....fuck, it's like one, long, neverending nightmare. As a kid I LOVED this movie. I had no idea how dark and screwed up it was.

On the Jim Henson note, I also found labyrinth slightly disturbing as an adult (though I still love it). Not so much from a scary creepy puppets perspective, as it is with Dark Crystal, but from an "Oh wow, David Bowie is a pedophile" perspective. "Let me rule you. Do everything I ask and I will be your slave." <~~~knot really kids material there, Mr. Henson.
