Does anyone know anything about this field? I have a high i.q. and always score very high on tests, but I can't do some simple things that seem to come very easy for other people....I cannot draw.. I'm talking the worst artist in the world bar none... Noone would want to be my partner in Pictionary... I get lost very easily... Even in my own neighborhood or in a building that I work in... I'll take the wrong turns and forget where things are located....Sometimes my mind goes completely blank and if an emergency were to occur, I would forget which way to get to the elevator in a building... I've been laughed at and made fun of my whole life for these deficiencies once people discover them.. It's a great source of frustration, but I don't think I can do anything to change it... I think one possible explanation is that I'm ambitdextrous.. Maybe the wires in my brain are crossed?

I do remember when I was a child that I had to see a therapist because my hands could not do what my eyes could see ( I believe that's what my mother said)... which is strange because I'm an excellent athlete with very good hand eye coordination.

get tested--it will give you real insight. it did for me (they diagnosed me as just plain stupid, but at least it was closure). seriously, there are so many diagnostic methods that can identify the issues.

What kind of professional would I see? My mom thinks I can overcome the deficiencies which seem to be a bigger problem than I thought, but I have my doubts.

the school should have some references, but you need a Learning Disability Specialist --usually someone w/a Ph.D. or some state certification (but go with the Ph.D.).

I dropped-out of high school at 16--very ADD (before they knew what it was)--I am now a Tax Attorney and an Adjunct Professor of Law---so much for my disability. Identify it, then take steps to mitigate it.

good luck

With the things that you are describing I would send you to neurology clinic. It does not sound like you have a low i.q, and keep in mind i.q is not everything. My son has adhd, speech problems, motor problems, and also has tested in a cognitive series to have issues when it comes to memory recognition. However when I requested he received an i.q and he scored pretty damn high..
Yours sounds similar to my sons memory problem and as far as drawing maybe you have some fine motor delay?

hmmmmmmmm.....sound like a bad situation bro. i would def get checked out. Not to long ago i found out a had a vitamin defecit (sp?) and it was causing memory issues pretty bad. i started taking a few different sups and it has helped out tramendously.

i still suck at spelling though, i doubt any vit will help that :) lol

Now that I have good insurance, I'm gonna see a neurologist... People at my job are already beginning to pick up on my problem.. A guy asked me if I knew where my car was when I left work the other day... I didn't and pretended like I did because I was embarrased... But, We come to work in one building and walk underground to get to the one we work in... Then we we leave we go out the 2nd building and I have to try and find where I'm at and that scenario really shows my problem..... My friend used to say that I've been coming to his house for 10 years and still have to ask for directions to get there... I've quit school and jobs in the past because of these problems... Always been underemployed and would be happy doing a simple job because at least I knew I would succeed.... It's very frustrating to be very intelligent on paper, yet a total dumbass at the most simple things... I'm a dichotomy... I could be mad at God for making me this way, but I'd like to think it's for a reason... When people have made fun of me for not having a great job, I've gotten very angry because I know the reason and it's not because I'm lazy or dumb....

Re: I think I have some learning disabilities that have never been properly diagnosed

Ya know I really don't want to scare you but I wanted to throw this out there as maybe it will further motivate you to find out what's going on.

Have you had any type of CT scan or MRI of your brain? Some of those issues could be attributed to a benign brain mass that could inhibit certain areas of the brain from developing. If it grows, it can start to push on areas of the brain that could also cause this.

Are your symptoms getting any worse? Do you get headaches a lot? How about blurring vision? These are just random questions though and could potentially not be related as memory and vision are separate parts of the brain but I just wanted to ask to rule that out.
