I think it would be cool to be like Groundhog day when he keeps living to same day over and over again. But really for those people who may not believe in religion, LIFE is all they may have. And I am also one person who would like to see what the future holds...100, 500, 1000 yrs

I can't imagine living life forever, nor do I honestly think I would want to. Have you ever seen an eldery couple shopping in the mall or driving down the road. Yes, they might be happy and satisfied in their lives, and for this I am happy. However, I can't imagine living 200+ years of not being able to hardly move, without having good bladder control, or having a faltering memory. I only want to live as long as I am able to take care of myself. Nursing homes maybe a perfect solution for many individuals in this country--however, it is the last place in the world I would want to spend the later years of my life.

Anyone who has made a SERIOUS study of the bible would know that God created man to live forever.Death never entered the picture until man disobeyed God.
The human brain has the ability to store information endlessly.
This would not be the case if we were the result of evolution.
Everybody has the desire to live forever, it's natural, but we don't want to live forever under the conditions we see in todays world.
If we could keep our youth and health, and live under peaceful conditions ,it goes without saying that we would want to continue.
A few corrections to some of the posts: The bible states that there is no afterlife, only resurrection back to life.(Ecclesiastes 9:5,10)(John 5:28,29 Acts 24:15)
As for the SOUL, the bible clearly states that man BECAME a living soul, he was not given one!The Hebrew word translated soul in the bible is NEPHESH and means BREATHER. The lifeless body plus the spirit breathed into it equaled a soul, or a living breathing person.(Genesis 2:7)The word soul was often used this way in the past, for example:He's a very merry soul 'You poor soul'.Even animals are called souls in the bible.(Genesis 1:20,21,24,25 Leviticus 24:17,18))
Even a catholic encyclopaedia admits this to be true, even when their church teaches otherwise. Quote:
“There is no dichotomy [division] of body and soul in the Old Testament. The Israelite saw things concretely, in their totality, and thus he considered men as persons and not as composites. The term nepe_s [ne'phesh], though translated by our word soul, never means soul as distinct from the body or the individual person. . . . The term [psy·khe'] is the N[ew] T[estament] word corresponding with nepe_s. It can mean the principle of life, life itself, or the living being.”—New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967), Vol. XIII, pp. 449, 450.

Okiman,

You been listening to those snakes so long that you're beginning to think like one.

Snakes ???????

Yeah snakes. Wasn't Adam a Herpetologist studing reptiles in the Garden of Eden. Isn't there some story about some snake handing out apples and causing all kinds of trouble from then on.

Hell No!

That would be the ultimate punishment; almost as scary as going to Hell.

Okiman, I've made serious study of the Bible and I do not think it is absolute that Adam and Eve were immortal, nor do I think it necessarily fits in with certain statements. However, I do think that you have a very plausible explanation for your theory, and I very well might agree that if Eden was perfect then death would not exist according to Heavenly nature.

"And God shall wipe all the tears from their eyes. And there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" (Rev. 21:4).

Since God is the "the Alpha and the Omega" (Rev 21:6), He preceded death just as He will determine it's end. So I could actually follow your line of reasoning quite well.

However, I don't think believing there is any automatic belief in Eden's life eternal that necessarily comes with full study of the Bible. I don't happen to place greater emphasis on individual interpretation of the Bible. I also shun literal interpretation of the Bible word for word. For me, to each his own in terms of how the Bible speaks to you. But it is pretty cool thought.
