Technically yes. When Rhodesia got independence and became Zimbabwe, AFAIK the big landowners (white colonists or descendants of white colonists) retained control of the land. The war, BTW, was highly racially motivated, and racial politics are a BIG deal over there.

The theory with the land seizures is to take the land and divide it out more equitably, which in THEORY sounds nice BUT - of course, it's being done the WRONG way.

First of all they are giving violent mobs the excuse to take some revenge for whatever whites did to piss them off during the war. And allowing rampant violence and initimidation.

A lot of the folks who are being given land know nothing about how farming works. If Mugabe had any sense at all, or any interest in actually DOING something for his country he would phase the whole thing in over maybe a decade or two. Offer the white a fair price for the land, and handit over piece by piece after sending the new folks to ag college.

But he doesn't give a shit as long as he remains in power - my guess is he saw the landowners as potential rivals for power and decided to cause chaos to eliminate them, not caring about the consequences.

Now they are having a food shortage and shitloads of people are gonna die.

Now, it's true the West is paying more attention because the farmers are white, I guess they have a lot of relativdes in the UK etc, but I still think the whole situatino is shitty...

Whats happenning right now in Zimbabwe is not
about Justice, its about greed. Plain, simple greed.

Already, financial aid institutions like the World Bank are
reviewing their proposed aid to the region.

The only institutions that will keep on sending aid are
the Red Cross and some medical groups.

Whats happenning in Zimbabwe, is that the govt. is re-routing
the aid money straight into their own pockets.
Hell, almost everybody in the international community knows this.
The reason why Mugabe's obviously illegal activities are
being overlooked is because Zimbabwe is RICH and I do mean
RICH in minerals.
Corporations(large ones) are hoping that when the dust settles he will be willing to talk business.
This latter reason is why they don't want to piss him off too much.
There's actually a few US corporations in this list too. Thats why the US keep sending AID money.

I know, sad isn't it?

The best thing to do IMO would be to SEND food not funds.
