They hit the abs, hips, hams, quads, and erectors...all differently. It just feels different and I do them from time to time for a 2ndary exercise...

Looks good for a round-back lifter;) did you start doing these to perform better on the Conan Wheel because the grip seems very similiar? Looks pretty good:)
 
They really don't help with the conan's wheel at all...they just feel good and will make me stronger. They might actually help with the atlas stones a lot...I'll see soon...

I take my right hand and grab my left thumb...palms facing...left hand on the inside. The bar sits in the crooks of my elbows...

I have never done squats this way. I normally use 225 for a real deep 15-20 nice and slow. A little background so you know where I am.
What weight is reasonable to start with, grip considering? Know what I mean?
 
You should be able to do 135 fairly easily....

It takes a certain amount of weight just to keep me in balance...
