I put this stereo in my truck, Kenwood MP3 deck, detachable face, the whole nine yards. Every radio I've ever put in has been detachable face so as to lessen the risk of theft.

Then, I got complacent. Stopped taking the face off, and just left it in the truck.

So, Friday night...some asshole breaks into my truck, and steals the radio. Not only did they steal the radio, but they broke the piece of trim on the dash that snaps off for replacement, and here's the best part: they cut off the factory plug, for no good reason. They could've taken the after market deck and harness, but noooo...they had to cut off the factory plug so I have to have new wiring down to the panel.

On the upside...they LEFT 4 CD's that weren't mine, and 2 movies from Blockbuster, and the knife they used to cut off the harness.

Wish they'd catch these fuckers. I know they won't, but it'd be nice.

That has happened to me twice. I thought the first time I would have learned my lesson but nope, I began to get complacent after months of no problem. Then one night, i left it all in there, and it was all gone. Third time is a charm and I am programmed to always take out my faceplate and cell phone now. The dudes had blood all in my car from where they cut themselves. I don't know how they can't catch these people. There is nowhere near enough time or money put into car breakins around here at least. It almost seems like anyone can do it and be perfectly fine.

Yeah...I've touched some of the stuff...I'm hoping they left prints when they put the blade in the knife.

Thing is...I just don't know if the cops will go to the trouble.

they will if u push the issue with them, if u reported it and wish them to persue it then it is there duty to do so, many police officers dont do dick on a daily basis so might as well give them something to do between donut holes and sips of coffee.

The only way the police will expend any effort is if there were several break ins in the area. If your truck was the only one hit they probably will not put in a lot of time. Right or wrong, they don't have the manpower to devote to most small property crimes, and unfortunately, that is what this will go down as.

It sucks, but that is the way it is.

Yeah...I have two buddies that are cops...I've heard stories about cops that like to be dicks about it when it gets pushed, so they'll make a mess with the printing powder, which is a bitch to clean up. Not so much a big deal in this case, but for home robberies, it's a pain.

They just know that resources are not going to be devoted to hunting down the pricks that stole my $500 stereo.

My second car (piece of crap) was broken into all for a $13 case of motor oil. What fucking low life's to break somebody's window out for that. Now it's going to cost me $60 and time to replace it.

I hear ya'. I've been on the receiving end of too many break-ins and stereo thefts to even count anymore.

Not that I'd ever do this, since it would most likely come back to bite my own ass, but I've fantasized about leaving some seriously booby-trapped drugs in my console... just waiting for the fucker who breaks into my car. Maybe some nice buds with some sort of crystalline, industrial cleaning-chemical that looks like THC crystals, ...or some coke cut with some sort of chemical that's stable in air but reacts violently with moisture contact. (I'd love to see their face when they realize that the line they just did flared-up and cauterized their mucus membranes and lungs.)

Biggie: I know they hit other cars, because they left other property in my truck. Had I been smart, I would have not touched it, and taken it to the police. I found it when I was moving stuff around. Regardless, I know the police won't devote much, if any, effort to this. I don't blame 'em for it...it is what it is. However, I have registered the serial number with the police, which they will cross reference with the pawn shops in case it turns up.

alien amp pharm & fogg: I agree with you. I used to have a better system in my Impala, and I always figured that if I caught someone in the car, legs sticking out, pulling my amp, I'd get a running start and slam into the door.

I figure that'd put a stop to them ripping shit out of my car.

If the idiots left the knife, then get it fingerprinted. Normally cops can't do anything because evidence is never left.. but the bufoon(s) left a clue. You should get Scooby and Shaggy, along with the rest of the gang to solve this one for you!
