You ever think about starting everything over....

Everything. Just say, "Fuck it I wanna do what I would enjoy,"?

I'm really, honestly, unhappy doing what I've been, and the money has been the only thing keeping me in it. I've honestly forgotten what I like to do. It's pathetic. Anyone ever done anything like this? How'd it go?

Ya never know. Sometimes life gives you the chance to do that. Its just part of the decisions we make at each fork in the road. Some people totally say "fuck it" and go after their dreams. Some arent' sure what their dreams are but they head in that direction. Its when you feel like you need to run away from whatever you are in now that its probably a good time to explore some other options.

I can totally relate, but I have too much invested in my job now. To start over in another field in a entry level position isn't realistic at this point.

Regardless of what you do for a living, it's still a fuckin job. Let's be real. We work for money.

Eh, I'm in a position that I could take a bit of time if needed. I'd just have to start over completely if I went into something else.

That's the scary part. It would be a huge pay cut to do so as well.

Sorry I sound so much like a pessimist. It's just my ascerbic wit coming to the surface.

It's the good mammy in you. It's awesome that the thought of blowing work off doesn't even occour to you because you need to take care of mini-you.

Now.... boobs.

I made that decision @ 2 years ago. Best decision I ever made...being true to yourself. Its way to easy going through life just doing what everone else does.

Find what you love, what you have a passion for, what you are good at and go for it.

you spend at least 40 hrs a week at your job maybe 5 -15 hrs commuting to it, 5 -7 getting ready for it, and another 5 or so thinking about it when you are not there.

thats 55 - 70 hrs a week involved in some area of your job.... It is definitley worth doing something you enjoy.... You can pretty much make money anywhere if you have good skill sets....

I loved what I did for a living (I was a teacher)- but I hated other teachers. Think about it like this...remember when you were in high-school, and you had the one cool teacher? Well guess what? That "cool teacher" had no cool co-workers!

Anyway, I left teaching, wrote a book, and do this for a living now.

Hated. . .HATED my job. . .went to grad-school, got a Masters degree, got a new job two weeks after I finished. . .doubled my income and my job satisfaction. . .lasted for a couple of years, then I went out to do it for myself rather than someone else. . .It's been 5+ years and I'm so busy I have not had an opportunity to reflect on whether I like it or not. Most mornings when I head to the office I'm pretty happy. . .does that mean anything?? :)

People who don't have dependents (kids) don't pursue their dream for one reason and one reason only: no balls

If you truly know what will make you happy...TRULY...then go after it.

Once you are wifed up, have kids to feed, too many bills, your options go to shit. If you don't have a wife, kids and can handle paying bills while you pursue a dream, do it...because once you are settled, all you will have to think about are

what ifs.

See that's the problem with most people. Not everyone has to work just for money. Most people live to work instead of working to live. Once I finish school, if my career in any way inhibits my personal life, I will find another career. It's that simple. I will not let a job dictate my personal life no matter how much money I'm making. Some people are the total opposite. They think that the key to life is making as much money as possible only they haven't yet figured out that money doesn't always equal happiness.

Nah ahhh. My wife quite her 100K per year job to stay home and raise our twins and a couple of months later I left the security of my firm to go out on my own. It's been 5+ years now and things couldn't be better. We had another kid, my practice is really starting to take off and I'm currently looking to hire a couple of people. :)

It's funny. I don't even remember what I like to do any more. That's why I want to take some time off and think it over. The problem with that is I could jeopardize the business relationships I have should I decide to keep doing what I am.

I think I just want to make $80K/ per month to golf, ride, and go out to eat.

Simple as that.

My dad always asks me if there is something I want to invest in or a business I'd like to start up because he has extra cash.

I would like to start up some kind of business, but the only problem is my parents are work-a-holics and if I decide to take a day off work for myself here and there, they will fight with me saying I am not dedicated. I do a lot of activities and hobbies outside of work because I feel why slave your entire life without having fun?

Its so important to have a healthy balance in your life. Its great to be financially stable, but if it only means you can hire a better therapist when you finally lose your mind, what's the point?

I'm 30, and I look and feel like I'm 40. Stress is killing me.

It doesn't help that I haven't had a real vacation for years. 3 day weekend is all.

bankruptcy was years ago. Even with that, I'm still not going to have a career just for the money. I may have an odd job here and there that gets me by. Right now, I don't have to worry about money since we sold our house resulting in quite the payout.

Once I do enter the workforce after school and if I don't truly enjoy being a radiology technician, I'll go back to school again. I don't settle, period.

Might want to re-evaluate where you are going & what you are doing. I completed my MBA via a weekend "exec mba" program while working about 80 hrs / week on a very high profile, political project (software development), left the company that paid for the program (!) and jumped right into the internet boom & bust. 100 hr weeks for months on end and then laid off. Twice. I dont' know how to relax when I don't have a job. Finally on my 3rd lay-off in 6 yrs, I'm learning to enjoy it, however I've got some finances to fall back on. But the mega swings from job induced stress to lack-of-job stress take their toll. I am 40 and I don't want to feel & start looking like I'm 50. It's not worth it. If you "succeed" but you're stressed beyond belief, does that mean your casket is better than the next guy's? If you win the rat race, what exactly do u win?

If you can, start budgeting your time so you have a balance. Its hard as shit, but sometimes its so easy to fall into the day to day chaos and its like falling into a running rapids -- it only leads to a waterfall....

Adequacy of preparatory planning. . .it wasn't luck or an accident. My old man didn't teach me a whole lot about being a decent human being (thank God for my mother) but he did teach me to bust my ass. . .no money trees growing in my backyard. :)
