Exposure Compensation
+/- 2 stops in 1/3-stop increments
Looks like you can adjust the above to +2 to give you more exposure for
at least the still shots.
Also, don't focus with the center of the image on a bright section of the scene as it will use that for the exposure and make the rest very dark.
Focus on a dark part of the scene in the center and then, holding down the shutter button half way, re-align the scene and then take the picture.
