Yet another madcow2 question

view

New member
well mr madcow, I may have missed it somewhere in the infamous 5x5 thread, but when we are talking about loading/deloading, are we talking about loading/deloading the CNS, muscles, ligaments, joints, etc, all of the above?

Mainly it's concerned with fatigue and then disipating accrued fatigue. This is primarily CNS but the ramification of increased and decreased workload periods are going to weigh in on everything. As the body recovers and adapts to the previous loading cycle hypertrophy is obviously at play and a lower workload for a period will help prevent any overuse joint/connective tissue issues from getting too out of hand with consistent long term pounding (probably less a factor as long as someone is used to a semi decent workload but there nevertheless).

I don't know if you had read this but it's a really great piece that coolcolj dug up: http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/PlannedOvertraining.html

For me, most recently, it was about overall recovery: my hips were shot from variety squats, my lower back from deadlifts. I feel more rested now, after two weeks, so I know my CNS is de-fatiguing but I also needed a chance for the aches to subside.
