Meridia (Sibutramine) as I am sure you know is a medication used to treat obesity. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine (neurotransmitters) in the brain. It was developed as an antidepressant but found to have the side effect of weight loss. It works through apetite suppression primarily, but it des also have some thermogenic effect. Problem is that it also has significant side effects in the way of elevating blood pressure and heart rate and has been questioned several times in cases of heart arrythmia. It is a mild stimulant having some sympathomimetic effect but is unlikely to be an ideal drug in BB due to the apetite depression.
