WTF is going on

I play bball about 4 times a week. In the last year I have fractured both ankles and rolled both of them many times. All through playing in college I never hurt them but did break one in off season during high school. Is there some workouts you guys would recommend me doing? I rolled one again tonight and it just pisses me off. I've never had this kind of problem before

I'm sure there's flexibility exercises that ccj knows, but just a precautionary, you should wrap them up tight to avoid rolling them. it sounds a little like a balance issue too if you're rolling them that much, perhaps work in alot of squats and DLs to help the core of your body strengthen the legs and balance itself out.

i dunno if it would have to do with balance b/c i do it when i'm coming down from jumping??? i had been using a brace on this ankle for about 2 months, stopped 2 weeks ago b/c they feel so restrictive and BOOM, here i am again, leg in the air with ice wraps

It's hell i know. I playd bb in highschool with pretty good level and then just like that fcked it up 3 time straight. And then it was over. Every time i playd all i did was thinking about not breaking it again and then i quit.

It damn painful too, though i used these braces, never mind if it is restrictive, use it!!

Get checked out by a physiotherapist - there may be alignment issues with the way your bones healed after the breaks. If so, you may never be able to play without the braces. (My brother was born with 'off center' knees and ankles - after rolling his ankles in varsity sports, the 'off center' became more pronounced, to the point that he cannot play ankle intensive sports without immediate injury.)

coming down from jumping still would have to deal with balance IMO in that you have a "brace" reaction with a basic jump.

gotcha...every time it happens i land directly on the outside of my foot and it rolls under from my weight coming down on it. its just aggrivating b/c i played jr. high, high school, and college ball and never had this problem. do u all think just doing squats, deadlifts, calve raises would increase the strength and help out?

I sure think they would. work those legs, and wrap the ankles up tight before playing. also stretch them before playing a pickup game or whatever you do

I have a similar problem - I constantly sprain the same ankle when running after a very bad sprain a few years ago. I've been thinking that a bosu ball might help. Haven't tried it yet though.
